how to remove the helmet lock?
« on: June 04, 2008, 05:14:16 PM »

I'm never gonna use the lock to stow my helmet... but I was thinking that would be a good spot for an inspection sticker plate.

Anyone know how to get that stinking lock off while leaving the metal tab there?

there is, I believe, a torx head screw that holds the lock on. 1 screw and a mounting pin, remove screw and pull off. not sure on the torx size though, it's a small one. good luck.

Thanks for the advice.

I did manage to get it off last night. That hole is ROUND with a little bit of a hex impression in it. I tried the T25 torx and a 4mm hex, and between the two finally got it loose enough I could get the rest by hand. A real pain though, with as little room as there is between the back of that plate and the tire.

was going to say needlenose locking vice grip should do the trick if you don't mind damaging the bolt
