1300C motor needs paint. Your help needed
« on: August 20, 2006, 04:27:18 PM »

Has anyone painted their motor black? If so, what product did you use? What about prep work? Did you have to remove the motor?

Any pics or help would be much appreciated!

Big-X, owner & moderator of the VTX Cafe board just did a full rebuild of his bike (an 1800 Neo, I think).  He painted the engine black, then filed the paint from the edges of the fins.  Looks fantastic.

See www.vtxcafe.com.

i asked about this the other day on the national board and was sent a pretty good link about it.  the guy that did it in this one filed the edges before paint, then used pinstriping tape to tape em off before paint.  he said that filing it after painting made the paint around edges of the fins chip some.....

Yeah I read that also. Lots of good info on the big board. Thanks for your response

Here is the write up I did.

http://www.vtxcafe.com/showthread.php?t=2012

The main thing I did "different" was I did all the filing & polishing and then painted, after painting I got a thin rag, lightly covered it in paint thinner and wrapped it around a sanding block to remove the paint from the edges....can't say that is the best way but it looks good.
