Group Ride to Coloradical VI 2008
« on: March 30, 2008, 07:42:43 PM »

Anyone interested in trying to meet up on our respective ways to Colorado?

I know RocknRoll and I plan on meeting up to make the ride, and robertearl has mentioned it as well.

Is there anyone else that will be riding up there around Wednesday or early Thursday?

We will all be staying at the same place and can take some of the same rides------ Pete likes to make up his own rides :D :D :-\....  Others that may go are Tom VTX, R.D., Randy Txcajun and others might chime in later as it gets HOT  :'( :-X

Actually, I make the same rides but in a smaller group, sometimes just one.   Large groups on tight twisties scare the poo-poo out of me!  First time I went there was at least one dropped bike on each ride.  No serious damage or injury but enough to scare me.

Mike - I have been playing with routes.  No matter how I do it, a meet up in Amarillo seems to be the best.  That leaves about 400 miles to cover on July 3.  If we meet in Midland we have about 650 to cover.  Amarillo is about 580 from Houston.  Midland is about 500.  My suggestion is a slightly longer first day to meet up with a shorter second day to make the July 3 feasting.  I can do anything so this is just a suggestion.

Cool? 8)

Amarillo by evening------ there is a song in there somewhere...

Amarillo by evenin', up from Angelo.
This fever that I've got, is just why I ride on.
When that sun is high and the X's fly
I'll be bucking it up to Denvair.
Amarillo by evenin', VTreX, I'll be there.

Pete rode his scooter from Houston, all the way up from the bay.
Found another X-Rider, somewhere along the way.
Well I'll be looking for bikes when I ride to Pike's,
And I'm hoping that turn ain't blind.
Amarillo by evenin', Colorado's on my mind.

Amarillo by evenin', up from Houstone.
This fever that Ive got, is just why I ride on.
I ain't got a dime, hell but I'll still ride.
I ain't rich, but lord I'm free.
Amarillo by evenin', Amarillo's where Ill be.
Amarillo by evenin', Colorado's what we'll see.

I'll run up to WIVO country to meet up with the old crew, see the new baby of Pistol Pete and VTX-Vixen (Ashli) - (Pete sold his 240kit VTX18C, his Valk Interstate, and has her Custom Tour Edition VTX18S up for sale to make room for the baby - that's gettin' your priorities straight!)
then out to Coloradical VI with the WIVO crew - probably for the last time?

I'll then look up the Texas crew for the ride back. As long as we take the twisties as far south as possible before hitting the flat lands...

I have been on a mission the last three years of Coloradical: stop at as many mountain passes I can get to and get a picture (and not rely on BBR Photopost to save them  >:( )

Meet up in Amarillo Wednesday evening...  I am looking at places to stay there, not sure yet, thinking Motel 6 or whatever is cheap, and I'm also thinking about giving that 72 oz. steak a shot...

Anyone got suggestions on a cheap place to crash Wednesday night?

What time do we want to head out Thursday morning?  7:00 am-ish?

Just trying to get the plans in the works...

Ya want a steak? Forget the Big Texan, That is a tourist trap. Go for the show if that is what you are into. It is kinda cool in a way. There is a little place just outside of town called the Lone Star Bar & Grill. The steak is the size of a roast but it can be consumed, I can do it. No show, and you can split one for normal people. No one pays attention to you eating, it is not cheep, but it cost a whole lot less than the  Big Texan. Steaks are a crap shoot, when I get a tough one, I chalk it up to a cow that saw the sledge hammer coming and tensed up just before impact.
