50th bday next year.
« on: May 05, 2017, 08:45:38 PM »

So next year I turn the big 50, and I'm hoping to do something special to celebrate it. One thing I've thought about is do a motorcycle tour, and need some suggestions from those that may have done them. I would love to do an international trip, but am open to touring the US. Would probably at the very most have 2 weeks to do it.

Any suggestions for the US or international trips? Self guided or guided trip. I would love to ride New Zealand, but the cost yikes...

There's a company in Ecuador that packages guided or self guided motorcycle tours that I've been dreaming about. You go from the mountains to the Amazon.

Go to Argentina and do the Patagonia ride, 1 to 18 exchange can't beat that 👍
I love that ride I did many times as a youngster in a Honda 100cc two stroke w my brother.

Gumbo was telling me about this one. Keep me in the loop. If you have a link to the company you are checking out post it or send it to me in pm.

Thanks. Took a look at the website and USD prices seem to be in line with other international tours I've checked out. At those prices, I would have to skip doing a moto tour.

I've also been thinking about doing a Thailand trip. Motorcycle tours are very reasonable compared to many other places. What do you think? Airfare as of right now is very reasonable. Under $800 RT to Bangkok or around $1000 to Chaing Mai in January.

Things I need to consider is climate. I wilt in heat and humidity so climate is a must consideration for me. Also my bday is in July, but getting 2 weeks off of work in the middle of summer might be hard to do. Going in the January-March would be much easier to get 2 week vacation approval.

How far along are you in the planning, or is it still just the thinking about stage?

I'm really leaning towards going to Thailand, and doing a guided trip while there. My concern is I have no riding experience in mountainous terrain and definitely not twisties in mountains. I would love to get some experience in that type of riding, and my question is what is the closest thing to Texas that would give me some experience?

That's what I was thinking. Now just need a riding partner and the time to do it.
