High Temp Engine Paint

I'm just gonna throw this out there & see what happens.
I lost one of my heat shields off of my V & H pipes a while back. They want way to much $ to replace it. I wrapped my pipes with heat wrap, and also have the the rear one double wrapped, and I am still getting heat on my right leg.
Here's the question, would a few coats of high temp paint work better than the wrap? I definitely think it would look better.
ANY THOUGHTS????

I am no expert but I think high heat paint just means it wont peal off when exposed to high heat like regular paint would. If asbestos wasn't :flag: so illegal and deadly it would be the perfect heat shield.

Sorry but ^^^ is true.  The high temp paint is made to withstand the head not shield it.  I think you are just SOL, unless you find someone CL or VTXOA used...

Thanks guys!!

That's what I was thinking, just needed some conformation. I'm getting ready to turn my exhaust into duals and I still have the heat shield for the front pipe so maybe I can cut it up and use pieces of it for the back one. If not, maybe buy a couple of the universal ones. Mainly just need to cover the rear pipe where it turns towards the front of the bike because that's where my leg sits.

You could just get a heat shield for your leg.

Good luck on the true duals...I've seen some 1800 guys on the OA do it, and it looks really good.

I noticed that my air horn was mounted right in the way of where I'm going to run the crossover pipe so I moved it. Dang thing was to big to put anywhere else.

If what's in my head ends up transferring to the bike, it should look awesome!!

I want to cut both pipes off right before they turn up and the lower pipe will get the crossover attached to it. I'll take a piece off of the crossover pipe and bring the top pipe straight back. My welder friend who is helping me has his original mufflers off of his Electra Glide Ultra that we will put on the bike. I still have the chrome heat shield for the front pipe which I can cut to fit and then see if I can use any of the leftover piece for the rear pipe. Hangers for the mufflers will be attached to the lower bolts that are holding my saddlebags on.
It all sounds pretty simple but I imagine that we will run into a few problems along the way. Good thing we both have over 25 years each as mechanics!!!!

Gonna pic up a set of factory mufflers off of a 2011 Streetglide tomorrow. Found em on Craig's list for $50.00, I offered the $40.00 & he bit.

I was a mechanic by trade for 26 years & I have never heard of something like that. Besides, if that is true, how does H/D keep from doing that on all of their touring models with the dual exhaust??

Obviously that guy never heard of properly tuning a motor to avoid that.  You'll be fine.  But be sure to tune it correctly by any means you see fit.
