Good Camping spots
« on: March 26, 2015, 10:47:22 AM »

I am soon wrapping up my sportster project and am wanting to just get out and take it on it's 'Walk-about'.  What are some cool camping spots.

I've done it in the past but my only set plan is leaving friday and I guess try to be back home Sunday evening.  That's it and, oh yeah, a cool park to camp out at.  No hotels no main highways if I can avoid it.

I'm going to be just rolling with the punches. :boxing:

You got it.  Done it before and man...I really enjoy it.  Not that I have that much on my mind but it sure does clear it up quite a bit.  The last time I got to camp like that was at the Harvest Classic back in 2013.  Gumbo was with me.  We actually went out to scout Bandera for BBT VI.

Petit Jean mountain here in Arkansas fits that bill, Matap. It may be too far though to be back Sunday. How about the Camp the Turkey Roost is in at Belton? Fair distance and a good park.

if you're leaving friday, Arkansas is where i would point the front tire.   Lots of good camping sites.  Mount Nebo is one I have stayed at.

ok, i am putting this place Hickory Nut Campground on a short list.  Looks cool  as long as you don't mind a quick jaunt of 4 miles of dirt road to get to it.

Paul, try Cedar ridge Park, It is just west of Temple off HWY 36. Nice camp ground on Lake Belton.  The riding in the area is pretty good. Ride up to Cransfells Gap and have a burger at The Horny Toad Bar and Grill not to be confused with Horny Toad Harley Davidson. Contact Kenny Vtrex and Hobo they may come see you. Have him take you to Temple for some White Wings, they are bacon overload. That is where Spring Thing used to be held.

Gary- My son and his wife was in Austin about 2 months ago on a business trip and we were goin to meet up in Temple for lunch and my first thought was White Wings! I was going to send them a menu to show the food choices and such and started reading the reviews.  :ohwow: Over the past year everything, food, service, cleanliness, everything has gone to the bottom as far as ratings go. Don't know if it changed hands or just what, but-----.

Hate to hear that, did like them white wings. Oh well, there's always the Horny Toad. Cedar ridge park is Still a good place for a quick weekend camp out , maybe just what Paul is looking for, for his shakedown cruz on his build.
