Xtreme Revolution fairing
« on: June 07, 2010, 12:21:38 PM »

Got my Xtreme Revolution fairing last week. Worked on getting it mocked up over the weekend and sent to the painter today. He said he will have it ready by tomorrow. I have pics, I will post the progress and make some notes on my trials and tribulations. You should be able to see the finished product at ROT  ;D

Matap, what is the height of your windshield? Do you get buffeting? How tall are you. I'm 6'5" and debating the height.

Here are some pics of what I have done for now.

These are the tune ports that was recommended on the instructions and also on a post from the national board. Instead of making them next to the speakers.I made them under the stereo housing They are pointing down to the headlight

Mock-up pics

A view of the tune ports through the stereo housing opening

More Mock-up pics

Front turn signals, I will need to relocate. This part will be fun  :banghead:

I added Dynamat, overkill, but hey, I'm a little of an audiophile.

I will post some more pics and note where I had issues on a later post.

Well, BUffeting is debatable.  I first got a 5" black windshield which pretty much does nothing for wind protection, then bought a 10" clear windshield for the longer trips.  really eliminated the buffetting, but increased the updraft from under the fairing.  Now, what i'm running is a 7" smoked windshield that i got from www.harleyshields.com, that has a nice little flip up at the last 2 1/2 inches of the shield.  This one by far has worked the best.  I can run a lower windshield that the 10", but still get that protection that the 10" offers.

Keep it coming. Looking at the same thing. Where did you find the stereo and the 5" speakers?

I got them both from Amazon. I had been looking at them for months until they came down at a reasonable price. This is what I bought

My painter did not have the fairing ready. He said he had some "Issues" while painting it. He said he will have it ready for tomorrow. I hope he does. I'm not that upset b/c I still have to install the fuse block, the ground block and run all of the cables. I will work on the electrical later tonight. I will post more pics later tonight or tomorrow.

Dude, this seems familiar.  I had the exact same problem with the painter the exact week of the ROT rally and had my bike torn down enough that it made me miss the ROT.  Word of advice, don't hold your breath waiting for the painter.  these fairing are a pain in the azz to paint.  don't let it ruin your ROT rally.

Lookin' good.  I sure hope the issues your painter has are not the same issues that my painter had getting the primer to not react with the fairing and lift into the color coat.   :banghead:  My paint job on the outer fairing turned out pretty bad, but I'll get it repainted sometime down the road.

If it's the plastic fairing.  it's probably the same problem.  these plastic fairings turned out to be a pain in the azz.

Dude, don't tell me this. My bike is torn down right now. I was working last night on her installing the fuse block and the ground block....I even told my painter which epoxy primer to use, because it was recommended by XR. Something tells me he did not follow my instructions. I'll call him later today and see what the issue is.
