1800 Hydraulic Clutch
« on: October 03, 2006, 08:41:35 PM »

The 1800 is the first bike I've ever had with the hydraulic clutch.  Right now, it seems to me that I have a lot of play in the clutch before it engages.  According to the Owner's manual and shop manual, there is no way to adjust the clutch for this.  They do say that if the clutch feels "spongy", that the lines need to be bled of any air.  I'm not sure what they mean by spongy.  The clutch feels normal as it engages, and it seems to be fully engaging as I let the handle out all the way - it just seems that I have to let off of the clutch handle to far before the clutch starts grabbing.

Is there any way to adjust the clutch so that it starts engaging a little earlier as I'm letting out on the handle?   Or is this normal for a hydraulic clutch?

The engagement zone CAN be changed, but it's not an "adjustment" as you would envision it. Since you're right around the corner, we need to get together and compare clutches. If you feel yours requires alterations, I'll show you what needs to be done.
