Ski Bibs.
« on: February 04, 2010, 09:06:52 AM »

Well, I took the plunge and got some ski bibs.  will try them out this friday and see how well they work.  Got them at Academy for about $17.99.  they were 24.99, but Academy has a 30% discount on all winter gear. So, I really didn't put myself that much in the hole.  :bikerider:

Watch out for your pipes.  If you get them even close you will melt a hole in them so fast you would not believe.

I bought the pants of which are made of a ripstop material.  i wear them all the time and have not had an issue.  However, I agree with DavidJ, you get to close and a hole will be burnt like toast or the COLTS!   :t   :bikerider:   :c

Wayne speak up here...based on my limited knowledge Wayne has not had any probs at all with his ski bibs and pipes....now Frogg Toggs, that is a whole different story.

If you are worried about your bibs, glue a piece of ironing board cover near the hot spot.

thanks for the input, if that's a problem and i like them a lot, I have seamstrist, that I'm sure she could sew on some leather patches on the inside of the legs and make it real heat proof.

I've had my bibs for about a year now. I've never burned them on my Vance & Hines pipes. I think they hug up a lot better to your legs than Frogg Toggs do. The gaithers really keep the cold from rushing up your legs and causing shrinkage.  :ohwow: Anyway, Thank Ironhorse for the tip, he was wearing a pair of bibs one cold Cranberries January day last year and never complained about the cold. My snowmobile pants might be warmer but they're too short. They ride over your boots and down your Cranberries leaving your feet and butt too cold.

I put a piece of leather over my burn spot on my Frogg Toggs which works great except that I have now burned them a little higher.  :cuss:

Of Course it's dirty. It's hard to clean when the tires keep moving.

It also depends on your pipes.

If you have pipes like the first pic, you have less of a problem than if your pipes are run like the ones in the second pic.

YMMV but my pipes are run like the second pic and I burned my ski pants the first and only time I have worn them.
