Title: Texas Bucket List Ride #07 - Dutch Windmill Museum (Sept 16th)
Post by: Rocket67 on July 19, 2017, 08:09:58 AM
I am doing another ride on September 16th to Nederland Texas.  The ride is about 300 miles depending on where you are riding from and will be mostly on Texas back roads.  The Museum is tiny but there are other things to walk around and see at this location.

Lunch will be at Willy Burger and if you haven't heard of Willy Burger you willy need to try it, it's willy willy good.

Meeting: Shell in Conroe @ Loop 336E and Hwy 105 (Next to Sonic and McDonalds)
KSU: 9AM

Plan on a 8-10 hour day.

More details on my FB Ride Group Page.

Just a few more blocks down 347 is the Janice Joplin Museum. Or is that another ride on the bucket list?

I'll make that another one.  It hasn't been on the TV show yet.  I'll want to go to Mini Graceland in Los Fresnos and will add the Janice Joplin museum to the list.

Go look in your invites on Facebook.  I double checked and you are on the list.

Just a reminder, this ride is in September and not August.

This would be a crappy ride for me.  Straight I-10.

Still about 6 weeks out.  I am hoping we have a nice moderate summer (so far so good) and that September is unusually cool.  It would be awesome to ride this in about 60-70 degree weather.

I may still join you up north but just cut thru right on I-10 back home.   I'm ready to put some serious miles on this Road King

Is the route map downloadable to an app or something? or just a gps?

You can download a GPS file, there should be the option from the link, just use the export button and you get several options. There is no app for this but any GPS app that is not Google Maps driven should have the ability to import a GPX file.  I have gone through this route (and will again) on my GPS to make sure that there were no unintended turns or diversions from the intended route.  I do not like unexpected stops due to the GPS not going where I wanted it to go but that does happen.  Previewing every step of the route in the GPS helps avoid that problem.

I just found a GPX viewer in the app store.  I'm going to download it and see how it works.

I have a TomTom but I'm not sure I can download GPX files to it.  It only cost like $75

Only a month away!!  I need another 300 mile day.  The ride to Galveston was good except the ride home.  We had a detour that took us down I45 to avoid rain to the East.

Ok folks, we are about 10 days out and I was wondering if this was going to happen in the wake of Harvey.  I went to TxDot and it looks like the roads are all either good or will be before the trip.  I called the Museum and they did not get flooded and are open now.  The trip will go on as planned.  Weather is predicted to be low of 70 and high of mid 80's with a slight chance of rain (cloudy).  It should make for a great ride.

Talked to a friend of mine who works close to the burger shack and he said that seating at prime lunch time is limited, but his reference is M-F. Still looking forward to it.

I wasn't able to get Willy Burger on the phone but was going to try back next week or check the FB page.  Seating is always limited there at lunch time, we will be there a bit later than lunch time though so should be ok.

As cool at it's been I wish I could schedule the start earlier but the museum doesn't open until 1 so there is no point in getting there earlier. Still, the predicted high is 90 and it's likely to go down so the high will be about the time we are sitting in air conditioning anyway.

I haven't checked to see if they are open yet.  Need to get on that.  BTW, if everyone shows that is saying they will we are going to have over 10 bikes, maybe over 15.  Big ride!

The ride was a great success.  We had 17 bikes in total and no issues along the way.  We did have one break down on the way home but we had already split up by then and only a few of us had to wait for a tow truck/trailer.  The museum was interesting and the food was excellent.

Next trip will be to the Waco Mammoth National Park.  Keep posted!!

If we have as big of a group I will need help.  Might need to meet up and have a talk about what we can and cannot do as far as traffic.  No issues last time but I see the potential.

It's wasn't bad at all.  The only issue was Dan's (I think that was his name) saddlebag lid almost getting ripped off after hitting that rut in the road.

His bike broke down later.  Shorted wiring.
