Title: Desmog and Pair Valve
Post by: dallasbroker1 on October 11, 2016, 06:58:29 PM
I am a new owner of a 2005 VTX1800C and would like to do the desmog and pair valve removal without messing things up. I am in Dallas and looking for someone willing to assist me with this project so I can learn and do it correctly.

I'm not in Dallas but the first thing to do is order the par valve block off plate from Big Larry and Bones.

Oops appears that the website is down. Anybody know if they are still in business ?

Not in Dallas.  Hopefully someone can help you but check out this site http://tech.bareasschoppers.com/ (http://tech.bareasschoppers.com/)

That website has some very valuable information.  Look under engine and you'll see the desmog write up.

Thanks Gumbo and Matap. I could travel to Houston for a tech session, that would be a great learning experience and meet up with other X'ers. BTW, do you know if the patches are still available?

Welcome to the forum !

Just installed blocker plates an evening or two ago. Went well and very pleased with the results.  Check out.          vtx-parts.com for blocker plates .  Wished I had seen their web sight before I made my purchase. Prices range from $17 - $21 for a pair. Their stainless steel plates are dimpled to allow room for the screw head that holds the reed valve in place .  An un-dimpled plate will require removal of the screw (this will all make sense as you read , the second time through, Bare's description of the installation) .  Feel free to PM me if you want some moral support or have any questions.

Thank you Capt., I ordered the dimpled plates from vtx-parts and they are supposed to arrive tomorrow. Also, I have printed Bare's instructions and read them twice so far. Where are you located? I'm having trouble finding X'ers in the Dallas or North Texas area.

Just received the block off plates from vtx-parts. They are the polished stainless steal with dimple. Didn't need polished but you can never have too much bling. Shipping was really fast (ordered on 10/6) and the plates are gorgeous. They will be in place tomorrow thanks to Chad.
