Title: Texas Bucket List Ride #04 – Danish Heritage Museum - Feb 20, 2016
Post by: Rocket67 on February 01, 2016, 12:38:36 PM
***UPDATE***

Where: 1218 W Main Street, Tomball TX (The Nook)
When: February 20, 2016.  KSU@ 9:30

The museum opens up at 1:00PM so leaving around 9:30 puts us there about the right time with gas stops/breaks.  After the museum we will head to Bellville (The Hill restaurant) for late lunch.  We should be there around 3:30 which is 6 hours after breakfast so bring a snack if you can't make it that long.

So I have a preliminary route and destination for the next Bucket List ride.  Starting at “The Nook” in Tomball Texas we will ride 2920 to Waller and then South through some towns I have never heard of.  The museum is in Danevag and the preliminary route takes us through Boling-lago and Pledger on the way.  After the Museum I am expecting to head North to Bellville to have a Burger at “The Hill” restaurant.  Total trip is just under 270 miles from a start point in Tomball.   I don’t have a date yet but it’s February and I don’t expect to see a weekend like last weekend in a few months.  But….posting just in case it does happen.  More details as I get this sorted out.

Oh, there is one road that I can't pull on Google Street view...those are usually interesting.

We'll see.  Willy Burger in Beaumont has by far been the best one yet.

UPDATE - Ride Scheduled February weather pending.  When I say weather pending, I am going if it's cold, going if it's windy....not going if it's rainy, cold and windy.

I'm ready for #4 and planning #5.  A great way to see some towns that otherwise I would never be in or drive through.

I may join you on this.  Just depends on how the rest of my weekends go before then.

Just let me know, we can meet up on the way so you don't have to come up to Tomball.

On another note, the Hawaiian Burger is not at the Hill, it's at Burger Nation in Victoria.  The Hill was voted "Best Hamburgers and Onion Rings in Austin County!".  The Hawaiian Burger will have to wait until ride #6 or maybe we can throw it in on #5 except that would add about 70 miles to the trip but could be worth it.

10-day forecast only shows up to Friday the 19th but if it stays consistent it's going to be in the 70's and mostly sunny.  Great day to ride!!  I might have to expand the ride once I get into the Houston area to head up to Drifters!!

10-day forecast is in and looks like there is a 30-40% chance of rain so far but the high is expected to be 80.  We'll see how things change over the next week.  I am ok with that percent as long as the temps are warm.

As expected, a few people that were going to be coming can't make it which is probably good...now we should have 5 or 6 bikes, should be a good group ride.  Weather is going to be beautiful.  I am ready.

It's just a destination and the last one I went to (Boomtown) was suprisingly interesting.  All of these rides will have a mid-way stop like this.  That is the point of the ride...well...that and to get out in the Texas back country.

The ride was awesome, 8 bikes and 11 folks.  All good riders, no problems at all.  We ended up doing so well we got there 30 minutes too early but the old guy that opened it up let us in early and gave us a little history lesson about the Danish immigrants and how they lived as a community from the 1800's through to now.  Pretty interesting stuff and he throw in a few zingers here and there.  I don't have a pick of the ad that they had in the house but there is still standing a house that was bought for $725 at Sears and built from a kit.  It was small but had 3 bedrooms, dining room and kitchen.  I guess there was no TV to watch back then and the toilet was outside.  Lots more pics on the FB page.  Go to the event and click on "Photos", everyone posted up their pics there.
