Title: Tex-Okla-NM-Co•Meet & Greet "On the Dark Side of the Moon"
Post by: iamrjtmac on January 03, 2012, 01:55:48 PM
This is repeat of a post I made on the vtxcafe forum.  Just trying to get it out there for everyone ...

Being up here on the High Plains I feel somewhat isolated from the bulk of the Texas Riders on the Board.  Most (Nearly All) events from Rides, Rallies and Meet and Greets take place in the lower part of the State.  I made one this year in October in Crockett.  Had a great ride down (500+ miles) and had fun at the event but that distance for lunch and conversation is a way to go.

So I was wondering if it was planned far enough in advance if there would be any interest in having a Meet and Greet and maybe a planned ride up here "On the Dark Side of the Moon".

I was looking at a target of June to early July before the intense heat sets in.

Looking at Palo Duro Canyon as a meeting place.

... http://www.google.com/search?q=palo+duro+canyon+state+park&hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=_TUDT-SxCcGztwebkNGXDQ&ved=0CHcQsAQ&biw=1919&bih=1012 (http://"http://www.google.com/search?q=palo+duro+canyon+state+park&hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=_TUDT-SxCcGztwebkNGXDQ&ved=0CHcQsAQ&biw=1919&bih=1012")

There are a couple of nice rides and sites in the area and the canyon is really something to see.  The famous Musical "Texas" would be going on at that time and is something to see.  ( I enjoy it and I hate musicals )  Have been 10 plus times.

... http://www.texas-show.com/home.html (http://"http://www.texas-show.com/home.html")

Another destination to take in, about a 70 mile ride from the canyon is the Cross at Groom Texas.

... http://www.crossministries.net/ (http://"http://www.crossministries.net/")

I was going to contact members of the forums I frequent, here, vtxcafe.com, hondashadow.net forum and the Honda Rebel forum.  I thought this would be an interesting spectrum of Honda Riders.

Would welcome riders from Oklahoma, New Mexico and Colorado since the ride in for them would be shorter than for you guys from down south in THE STATE.

There are motels available in Canyon Tx and Amarillo and some good places to obtain vittles.  Also camp sites are available in the canyon ranging from primitive to full hookup.  Shower facilities and restrooms are available at several of the campsites.

Hello out there ……...

Sounds like something cool, but I believe if you did it in June you would be competing with people that ride to the VTX Coloradical M&G IIRC.  I was actually thinking about taking a moto trip sometime in the summer and would probably consider it.  Will look more into the details and check in later.

This is very intriguing.  Would have to be the later part of June for us.   Put us down as a good maybe.

O.K. - Have gotten several responses.

Trying to narrow this down.

June has 5 weekends this year.

Looking at weekend 2: ___ Friday 8th ... Saturday 9th ... Sunday 10th

Distance guys would have Friday to come in or Thurs - Fri to come in.

Gonna get the date nailed down then go on to particulars on whether or not we do a ride on Saturday afternoon.

Let me know ... post up .... still flexible here for now.

When will we know if this is a go for it or not?

It is a go as of now.  Going to start requesting how many will be coming on Friday for the Sat. meet.  Plan a Sat afternoon ride if anyone wants.  Plan a couple of places to eat.  Date of June (10) 9 as Meet and Greet Day...

There are 78 days until the Gathering ....

We have 25 confirmed attendees ...

As of now we have riders from the following forums:

Haven't had any commitments yet from the texasriders forum yet although there are 4 tentatives on the list.

There are four confirmed couples and 2 tentatives.

There are 17 tentatives from all of the forums on the list.

There have been commitments from Kansas, NM, Oklahoma and Texas.

I think there is one Louisiana rider coming.  Can someone confirm that ?

Would really like to have several texasriders forum members present.  Have no one confirmed at this time...

If you have not committed do a little soul searching and come on out ... looking forward to seeing everyone.

Title: Feed back needed from Attendees ...
Post by: iamrjtmac on April 07, 2012, 08:15:39 PM
Heads up everyone ... I need to start gathering some information.

Yesterday I contacted the Trading Post in the Canyon to give them a heads up on the "Invasion" on the 9th.  Was wanting to give them some advance time on getting supplies laid in and maybe extra help on the lunch shift.  Looks as though we have a minimum of 35 so far for the Saturday meeting.

I am going need to do the same for the Rafter G on Saturday if we stop there on the swing back to Canyon after the Saturday planned ride.

It is also time to start considering if anyone is going to want to try and hit The Big Texas Steak Ranch on Sunday Ride on the backside.

If these are a couple of things we might want to consider I need everyone to chime in.  Please let me know.  Yea or Nea !!  Don't be shy.  I just need to see where the numbers are going to fall ...  We can do things as a group or let guys/gals roll their own.

Getting some concrete numbers from the CONFIRMED group will help in extrapolating some numbers to go by.

Thanks everyone...

Strange.  I'm unable to click on the links on the blog in the Updates section.  I've tried three different browsers across two different operating systems.  Anyone else experiencing this?

Yep. links are dead for me too.

"Houston - We have a problem" ...

The Web Editor I am using seems to have a "SMALL" quirk.  Cannot remove the "read more" link at the bottom of each blog entry on the Updates page.  It appears no matter whether there is more text or not.  As of now there are NO Updates entries that are longer than what appears on the page.

I cannot get this problem solved.  None of the support forums for the Editor have an answer and it seems to be a "bug" everyone is having to live with.

If it wasn't for having to rebuild the entire site I would change apps and solve the problem but I am just too dam_ lazy to do so...  Gee, honestly is freeing.  Of course I know that it doesn't solve the problem.

Please excuse this irritation for now and forgive my laziness.

I have a phone call appointment in the morning to have a chat with the Palo Duro Park Superintendent.  Found out doing some reading and research on the Canyon that LARGE groups need to inform the Park Administrators of their gathering.  I don't know that we are considered a LARGE group but thought I would make them aware of our arrival.  That will let the Park personnel know of our group coming in and also the Trading Post to lay in supplies for the "gathering".

Going assure the Supt that the Son's of Anarchy are not arriving and that we will be a civil group of mostly middle aged to "old" guys just gathering for a fun time. ( ok nobody takes offense, I am one of the "old" guys )

I think were sitting a 36 confirmed - I have some non forum guys who have 95% committed but waiting on final "CAN DO" before posting their numbers.

Hoping to gain at least 10-12 more in the next 3 weeks and maybe then get a few late to the party guys to get to the 50 mark.  Got some Okie guys from the Shadow forum I am trying to prod into taking the plunge.

Hoping this little shindig is a success and fun time for everyone.

I will need a range or maximum for cost for each one.

  T_Shirt ....  $$.¢¢

I will need help with everyone contacting each other to get opinions posted.

Looks like we could have a good group for the Proposed Sunday Ride.

Now that the Ride has filled out we will need to make some decisions.

I have reworked the Sunday Ride Map • *1 on the Info page of the website.
Info
It shows alternate starting points other than the floor of the Canyon. The Wal-Mart and United Super Markets starting points would be gas up points for the start of the ride or everyone could gas up and meet at the United Banking Center parking lot.

Also there has been a good interest shown in hitting the Big Texan for the evening meal on Sunday. Alternate routes to get to the restaurant are shown on the map. Both Alternate routes minimize or eliminate time on I-40, one of the busiest interstates in the nation. Mondo numbers of 18 wheelers at 80 mph. I don't mind being on the road with them but many do so we have options. I don't want anyone put in a position of being uncomfortable or "scared" (understandable) in having to ride in a situation they feel is not in their zone of capability and confidence.

Posting this so everyone can be  ??? thinking ??? about what they might want to do and it can be  :blahblah: discussed :blahblah: and finalized Saturday sometime.

Any input you would like to post - please do ... we want this to be a positive and fun time for everyone.

A Facebook group has been created by DKilleen, one of the "Gatherings" attendees, so that anyone that takes pictures of:

    Rides in
    During the Meet
    Planned Rides
    Trips home

can post pics so riders from all of the participating forums can follow along. As we all know, "If you don't take pics, it didn't happen".

Search for Palo Duro Meet & Greet or maybe this link will work:

Title: T-Shirt Update
Post by: iamrjtmac on May 15, 2012, 10:12:03 AM
Have found a provider and cost on the T-Shirt.  It will be a WHITE ... 100% Cotton Shirt with a round collar.  Sizes up to 5X.  $22.00 ea. (total cost).

It took a few calls to find a guy who could provide the larger sizes - 3X and up shirts at no huge additional charge or get them at all.  The company I am talking to has a good reputation.

Will have some graphics posted by the end of the week.  Hopefully by Wednesday night or Thursday.  Kinda trying to push my graphics people on this.

If this comes to life ... will take payments:
   by pay pal

Payment information will be provided later when and if this gets off the ground.  Will pretty much need to have orders in by mid next week.

Got the design for the T-Shirt in ...

See what you think ...

Gonna have to have a decision and orders by no later than Monday ... Need a minimum of 15 shirts ordered to get the price I was quoted $22.00 ... this fact came out yesterday when I called to confirm dates of printing shirts and pickup.

Let me know what you think.  As previously stated if this is gonna be a go, I'll get order and payment info posted.  This is gonna be kinda whirlwind so I will need everyone to chime in quickly...

You've worked your Cranberries off to get this thing off the ground and to that I take my hat comes off. I know that was alota off's in that last statement but that was the only way it could be said. Yes the Texas X Riders are a statewide assoication but unless you are in the Houston area (where the founding fathers live or lived) you'll basically get no support. Some of the North end riders (Dallas, Ft.Worth or let's say North Central riders) would possibably support this except for the Coloradoical, ROT, and some other events coming up so their saving the cash flo for those. One's that are going to Colorado don't want to make that 9 hour oneway and then turn right around and do it again in a couple of weekends. The ones going to ROT are saving their money cause those folks down there that put it on think "the little people that support us are rich" and if you've ever been then you'll know what I'm talkin about. I hope for your success and pull this off. Been riding thru that area for over 40 years and never seen Palo Duro from the inside. My bad I'm sure but maybe someday I will. Good Luck on your endeavors.

hooter:  Itasca "Wampus Cats".  One of my top 3 favorite school mascots in the state of Texas.

Thanks for your kind words.  Really hasn't been all that much work.  Just time taken between other things that were being done.  I learned a lot putting the web site together and it has just been a fun endeavor.

I traveled to the Crockett M&G last October and had a good time.  Long ride for lunch.  I was hoping to have the same fun experience with this more local event except not have to travel quite so far this time.  I have been really surprised by the response to the gathering.  Look to have between 30 - 40 there. When I first started I was really being optimistic I thought by hoping for 10 - 12.

I am not much into crowds and large noisy gatherings.  That is some people's cup of tea, not mine.  I would much rather go to a small informal and close gathering and meet and get to know people.  Some of the out of control things that go on at the large Rally venues just don't appeal to me and certainly do not appeal to the wife.

The "Dark Side of the Moon M&G" is an alternative to such large events.  Didn't put it together to compete.  As a matter of a fact I had never even heard of ROT until the date was set for the Palo Duro gig.  I believe a member on the VTXOA forum pointed it out to me that I had planned the two at the same time.  Also was made aware of the Colorado thing about the same time.

We invited people from 5 different forums inclusive of X riders, Shadow Riders and Rebel Riders and anybody else that happen to venture on the website for an invite.

So we will see how people take to the "Dark Side of the Moon".  Still time to join in ...

Thanks for the nice reply. Would really consider the run but I'm retired and have a shop making yard art, Bird Homes, etc. and my weekends are pretty much taken with flea market style sales. Spring and fall are the busiest times of the year for us and as much as I love road running, well just gotta do what a person gotta do! Take care.

:notworthy:   I also thank you for the effort you have made to put this on!!!   I know what it is like to beg for a commitment from people!   Turkey Roost is as central as there is! Pay if you come. The more that show the cheaper it is!!  It is too hot, it is too cold, it is too wet, it is too windy, it is too far!!!!!   I could still show up with no plans!! Been on the ground before!!!    Ride safe ride long.  :couch:

Just a reminder • some information • and some requests ….

I.  If you have not done so confirm your reservation at the Buffalo Inn Motel … must be done by Wednesday the 6th.

II.  Please Sign in and fill in your information on in the sign in sheet when you get to the Trading Post.

III.  Pick up a Packet either the night before or at the Trading Post.  I have prepared packets for 50+ riders ( surely that will be enough - I believe in overkill )

  •  Please complete the Name Tag you will be provided in the packet and wear it.  This will make the whole event more “Attendee Friendly”.

  •  If you are bringing a mods list be sure to have it packed.  A plastic display sleeve will be provided along with a ZipTie ( In your Packet ).  Check ¾ of the way down the Info Page on the website to download a copy of form or make your own.

There is still a plan to meet at the United Banking Center on the east side of town (see map on info page of the website) no later than 10:30 and proceed to the canyon as a group.  If you want to take part you are welcome.  If not meet us at the Trading Post at 11:00 am.

Everyone ride safe ... Weather looks clear - no rain forecast.
