Title: Rolling Thunder - Washington DC
Post by: RocknRoll on March 16, 2007, 11:59:44 AM
I know this rally to honor Veterans and raise awareness on POWs is the week after BBT, but I wanted to know if anyone was planning on going.  Would like to share a room in Washington if possible.   O0

My plan is to leave Mon, Tues or Wed, May 21/22/23 to ride up.  Would plan on getting back to Houston Tues or Wed May 29/30.  Idea is to Natchez Trace to Tenn then ride some of the good roads around that part of the country.  SC and NC area included. Then on to DC.

Have absolutely no firm plan since I figure I will be riding alone.  Would certainly welcome company to share expenses.  I have a buddy in New Jersey that goes almost every year.  Would love to hook up with him as a "guide."  He is a Nam vet and knows a ton of folks.  Great guy.

As I understand it, there are several hundred thousand bikes that take part in the "Thunder."  I just want to listen and let the power wash over me. Plan on going back a different route.  Interstates and speed!!!  Haven't made the route yet.  Need several hours with the books, maps and computer to plan this one out.  Time and distance will certainly alter my plans substantially.

I have been giving it very serious thought about going and have been to the web site looking at the routes.According to the web site only certain places you can join up with the main ride at least to D.C. last year had 300,000    bikes

Larry,

I hadn't planned on hooking up with and of the groups that are heading that way.  I certainly am planning to ride a few roads in SC/NC/TN areas but had not planned or even thought of riding with any of the groups.

I had a good friend who died of bone cancer last year.  He was a vet.  We talked of going and meeting with a couple of other friends for years.    We talked often of just wanting to hear the roar for a bit.  I'm going to remember my buddy.  I'm not a vet but I miss my friend.  I can only imagine what 6 digits of bikes sound like.

I would welcome the company if you decide to go.  I haven't made room reservations yet.  I need to do that pretty soon.
