Title: A QUESTION FOR THE SITE BEFORE TXR ELECTIONS START
Post by: j1mmyj4m on October 17, 2011, 10:13:55 AM
It's time for president nominations this week.  We can either proceed and start with nominations in a new thread or it's been presented to me that we continute rolling with how things are.

Current President is TXCAJUN (Randy).

What say you?

I have no problem with the current prez and board.  I say let they serve another year....of course that sounds like a prison sentence, lol

I have told Brock that I  plan on running again. I spoke with a few of the other board members and said if no one was interested that there is no since in going through the whole election process. I am willing to go at least two more years.

I love a gluten for punishment, two more years is fine as long as everyone agrees to no more warm Jell-O shots  :hurl:

NO!  Even if no one runs, the entire slate should stand and be duly elected.  The prez talking to the board is absolutely NOT the same as a membership vote.  It appears that "someone" is saying that the membership is divided into super members (Board) Semi-Super members (posters on the board) and non-entities (Those that don't post and apparently will forfeit their membership privileges for the crime of not posting.)  This membership consists of a relatively small group that posts and a very large group that seldom post.  Duly elected officers are required if only to keep the yapping to a minimum.

While I will probably vote for Randy again, I feel we should follow the rules as stated by RocknRoll, or do away with them altogether.
"The President shall be elected bi-annually through a poll vote by the membership. Nominations shall occur between dates chosen by the Board of Directors, but shall be no earlier than 5 weeks prior to October 1, and no later than 2 weeks prior to October 1.  A poll vote thread shall be posted to allow the membership to vote between dates determined by the Board of Directors, but no earlier than 4 weeks prior to October 1 and no later than 1 week prior to October 1. "
Given that we are late, I feel it is time to get it done. If someone wants to jump in the race, they should be afforded the opportunity, as I see it.

First of all I personally have done far more than police yapping on the board. I nor any other member of the board has ever made any comment about any type of divided group. I have spent endless amounts of time and effort along with the other board members looking out for the best intrest of this group. I merely made the suggestion that if no one else was interested in serving as president I would continue to do so. If everyone feels that an election should still take place then let's do it. And as stated before I will run or continue serving as president either way that is decided. We can not help if the ones that do not post are not heard. I never intended to keep anyone from having the opportunity to run for the position.

I agree with RocknRoll and Snake.

To make it fair we need to continue doing it the same. That way nobody can come back and say it was done under the table or it was showing favoritism. It will all be above board. Members that do not post or get on the board often will have the opportunity to vote and if they DO NOT then it is their own fault.

Randy, I feel you have done allot for the Group.

Wow, didn't know I was a super member!  So who is saying the group is divided?  ??? And the president is the only one elected. The board members are appointed.

Well with that being said I here by nominate Randy for president. He has done a great job and is willing to do what is best for the group in the future.

I believe that the election process could be bypassed and things would be just fine. However, if the election process is not completed we would be in violation of our own bylaws. This could possibly cause other troubles as well as sending a message of disinterest in the views of our newer members. As stated in an earlier post, ALL members should have the chance to be heard.

The attendance numbers of the last BBT show a declining interest in the Texas X Riders and it's clear that something needs to be done to revive interest and participation in both our governing process and events. Maybe an election will rejuvenate interest and prompt more members to get involved in the Texas X Riders.

As someone who has served on the Board of Directors I do not agree that the current association punishes members that don't post. We are an association that is widely spread throughout Texas and the forum is the only way to communicate ideas in a timely manner, ...without making a thousand phone calls.  :o

Randy does a fine job and he spoke to me at the last BBT about running again. I like his ideas for the future and I support him 100%.

An election is fine, it was just an idea ran by me.

I will start an official thread for nominations.

I'm confused...where did this business of "ALL members NOT being heard" come from?  Or this idea of "divided" membership? I have not experienced or seen any of that from this board or even members of the forum.

I don't think it was meant to be taken that way, I believe R&R meant that the membership should vote, not just a:" if anyone doesn't object I'll just keep it" declaration and a few aye's and seconds and that does away with the whole voting concept. That is the way I took it, anyway.

I think we should only have an election if someone wants to run. If no one wants to run we should bypass election and have Randy and the rest of the board keep up the Great work. IMHO

Now this is an Enthusiast Group for the VTX riders of Texas. Right?
So to vote maybe you should have a VTX.... Maybe? Or be an appointed member of this board. Maybe?   :stickpoke:
Well Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm just an A** Hole. I'm sure someone will 2nd that.  ;)

Okay, one more time! NOBODY made any decisions without asking the membership first. I made the statement that if no one wanted to run, I would continue as the president. A few of you are taking this way out of context. Now we are going forward with the elections. It was just a suggestion. Also, please NEVER compare me to who you did Snake. Thats about as low blow as it gets.

Didn't compare you to Obama, lol.  Was just pointing out that we don't want to start down that road. If nobody runs against you, no vote is needed. If somebody wanted to, now they have a chance. I personally feel, and said it early in this thread that I would probably vote for you anyway.

I don't think there was any intention of it being a dictatorship.

The nomination thread is alive and well, while it appears this thread has run it's course.
