Y'all have a good time and be safe! I leave Sept 26 headed that way (west) and will be out 16 days. I've checked all the places in Texas for the Miller High Life freshness test and they passed, so now I want to check the western states to make sure they are recieveing the same quality brew that we are accustomed here.  :c :c :bikerider:

As they say on Facebook, this photo has been tagged. There is no telling where this pic will wind up. I've made 20 copies to hang out there with one to stay on my windshield to give you the best view.   :bikerider:

Bike's all packed - just waiting for work to get out of the way, and Dave and I are off. And for those who almost were able to make it, we'll take planty of pics for you.

Oh no...last time we took flat Gumbo, all the girls hung around him buying him flat beers.  :redcard:
Even the cardboard coon-Cranberries worked his charm!  :notworthy:

Wow, what awesome weather! Started a little slow, but once we got started we covered some ground. Had lunch at Brady's in Brady.  :hurl: Passed a Duke energy wind farm near Notree. And made it to the guadeloupe mountains.  Left there towards El paso only to find out there is not much gas on that road. Rode in to one station as the guy was just closing up.  :notworthy: Made it to Los Cruces where we ate dinner, a green chile burrito, (sorry Ron). Found most of the rooms booked, so decided to head to the next town Deming. Fixing to turn in, plannimg on the devils highway tomorrow.

Left Deming this morning to head for the devils highway. Started getting a little warm and arrived at the copper mining towm of Clifton. Wow this place was huge!
Title: Re: Going West 2010 Part II
Post by: RedDragon on September 05, 2010, 11:55:54 PM
Left Clifton to begin the devils highway, wow tight turns and none are marked. It takes you up to about a 9150 elevation and it felt like it was 65 out. Headed west on 260 and was a beautiful scenic road to take across Arizona. It keeps you up around 6300ft so it was very nice temperature wise as well. Only draw back was the traffic. After we turned and headed north on 260/87 we saw a huge elk, just standing there with his head up watching traffic go by. The last ten miles of the night was going downhill into Camp Verde which has a noticeable temperature difference than what we had for most of the day. Planning on the grand canyon tomorrow and making it to lake mead by tomorrow evening.

Rode up 89A today and was a cool ride. Rode north through the mountains and came to Jerome which is a cool town built on the side of the mountain. You actually zigzag through town as you go down the mountain. Rode by cathedral rock then went through Sedona which is a town with a cool view. The road between Sedona and Flagstaff was cool but very crowded. Went to snow bowl north of Flagstaff and that was nice. Spent some time at the grand canyon. Wow! Now in Seligman for the night.

Your north of it now and al that area is a big test and bombing range for the military and no tellings what type aircraft you might see.You correct not much of anything out there so a good place to have such a base

So that is what the low flying aircraft signs was about.

David, Ron,

Those look like some awesome roads y'all are taking.  Making notes in case I get a chance to do a trip west.  Have fun and be safe.

Ok, Ron had a good night so we got to leave early. Today's highlights was Yosemite and Ca 49. Yosemite is just about the second most awesome place I have seen. And Ca 49 just north of bear valley is cool!

Full day today, and was only 441 miles. Scenic 70 is a very cool road. Never saw so many powerhouses one after another. Also found this cool little road called caribou road. It was one of those roads that the gps says it goes through, but you end up on a goat path. After that, we went to lassen volcanic park and it was very cold. Now in Weaverville for the night.

Well today we didnt get much ground covered, but will make it up in a couple of days. Don't know if I will be able to post pics or not, we dont have wifi tonight. Hit two main roads today, 299 and 199. Both great river roads and very scenic. Hit 101 on the coast and man is that cold coming off the water. Got into the redwoods, and all I can say is wow!

Had a great ride the last couple of days. Mount St Helens was cool. Got to go to the north side to get up close. That is the side that blew. You can still see the devastation. The lake at the top still has trees in it. Mt Rainer was awesome! If you like water falls, they are all over. Today we hit the snake river in Washington and headed down to hells canyon. Should see that in the morning. Could have already been there but the road repair hasn't been finished yet.
