Tire question
« on: May 27, 2009, 11:19:46 AM »

Gotta get new tires before the Colorado ride. I'm in the north Austin, Cedar Park, Round Rock area. Can anybody recommend a good place to get them and have them mounted. Don't want the Dunlops, either Metzler or Avon.

Thanks

Just something that I have found out with dealing with a local motorcycle tire shop in my area is that if you find the tires online that you want and they have them at the shop you are thinking about buying from will sometimes meet the price of the online seller. Maybe they will, maybe they won't but doesn't hurt to ask. Might even cut you a deal buying and mounting them there. Metzlers are what I have used and have had good luck out of them.  8)

I have tried them all... I am running Bridgestone now front and Battle AX 200 rear.. I like the stiff sidewall... On the VTX 8,000 miles is about all I have gotten.. Have a great time at the Coloradical !!! :bikerider: :bikerider:    RIDE SAFE RIDE LONG  :t :c

Went to American Motorcycle Tire. Was running an 180 on the rear of my 2002 1800c, but ordered a Battle Axe 200. The brand is Bridgestone. $145.54 + $11.54 s&h total $157.08. Local Shop wanted $254. They will charge $75 to mount it. ;D

if you call Central Texas power sports in Georgetown. I got My ME880 cheap. they will install for $18 off the bike or 25-30 on. They make good deals on the tires.

I always wait for HDL to run a sale and buy xtra tires. Running Bridgstone my self for the last two changes and like them just fine. I like to take my wheels off and take them in to be mounted. That way I can feel the bearing race myself and they charge less if they don't have to take the wheel off and put it back on.

Thanks,  alot of good advice.  I did call Georgetown Honda and they have the Metzler 880 in stock at a great price but I'm still goin to look around.
I was hopeing to get a few more miles out of these dunlops, but it's not going to happen. They wore out at 7000 miles.  :c

I have said this before, the same Dunlops came on my GoldWing and I could have gotten more than the 13000 miles I had on them when they were changed. WHY????

Actually, I average 18-20K miles on the front and 14-16K miles on the rear with the Avon Venoms.  I won't change to another tire unless I have to.
