Was it related to the infamous SPRING incident?

You know, there's an easy way to do that. Just ride barefoot and drag the left peg hard a whole lot. When you have it ground down to the point that makes you happy just pick out all the gravel -- it's important to get as much as you can out -- and splash a little alcohol on it (Jim Beam works well). Wrap it up in an old teeshirt (they seem to heal faster if you use a clean one) and yer done. Oh yeah, if you limp and wince a lot, and moan a little every now and then, folks will bring you food and drinks and try to do nice things for you; you should milk that as long as you can.

Are you sure you weren't compressing a spring with your foot? I've seen that kind of injury before .

Not completely fair. Doc won't even let me see my foot, let alone clean it. That pic was taken during a dressing change. I don't think they even cleaned it after surgery.
