Post by: TomVTX on July 19, 2008, 05:30:16 PM: Since the Bowling Alley in Blanco was put up as a possibility and I live here, I'll take the responsibility to set it up, put it together, and do all the reserving, provided the rest of yall want to have it here. If not, then no harm done and we can move on to another place and somebody else that's closer to one of the other places can do the "setting up".

One thing to consider is that I'm not sure the bowling alley can hold us all if a lot of people show up at the same time, but right next door is Riley's Barbecue which gives everyone two choices of where to eat and plenty of parking at the back of the bowling alley or all around Riley's

I guess it's time to make a choice and pick a date.

A 8-9 hundred mile round trip for lunch is kinda tough. Now, depending on the day, I guess I could make it a two day lunch... ;D

For it to be any closer to central, it's gonna have to be north of here (Blanco) and somebody needs to put it together.

All of the suggestions are excelent but I'm partial to Bandera. Since many of us, including me, would probably require an overnighter so we could get in a bit of a ride in the area, Bandera and surrounding area has pretty good lodging choices. It is also close to the Coopers in Junction. That Coopers has better brisket and pork chops than Llano IMHO!! O0

hahaha, I quote the AppleSauce out of that movie, got it from my dad who I believe has the whole thing memorized (he recorded it onto audio tape a long time ago and actualy used to listen to it in his truck). The cool thing is I quote it at work with a few others, and recently they named a project (land acquisition for wind farm development) we are working on "Rock Ridge" because we asked them to name it that. It was splendid!

I reviewed the other thread about the meet and greet:

Although we are "ouside the box"...we can provide meet most of the requirements. Here is the list from the other thread:

Requirements for a good M & G spot?

1. Location, location....lets see..its during a rally and includes a major concert but we "arent in the box" but I still say YEP...LOL
2. Good food! YEP....and lots of it on the grounds and locally.
3. Ability to handle the "gang"///YEP....lots of tent camping, RV spots, and local HOTELS.
4. Alcohol available/allowed (not a "must", I guess, but really welcome)..YEP..ITS A RALLY..and it will be there and available on the grounds, in the Beer garden, and in everybodies coolers in the campsites...LOL
5. Good roads coming from all directions..YEP...centrally located between Lubbock, Abilene, and Midland
6. Naked dancing girls (well maybe not naked, and maybe not "required", but damn nice to mix in!)..YEP...just hang out in the ZOO (one of the camping areas) and have some music playing after dark!! There will probably be some dancing girls around.....LOL.

ANY QUESTIONS??

I live in Snyder, and can provide answers to those coming from out of town...Murray 61 isnt too far away over in Midland either. Between the 2 of us, we figure we can get the Statewide Meet and Greet off the ground...if everyone likes the Location.

The Rally is held in October, so the weather is nice and its growing quickly!! There are campsites available for RV's and LARGE tent areas...and Yes, If you have read the other links already, I will try and rope off an area for our VTX group again. Hotels are available in town, and for those who have been before...they are in the process of building 2 new large hotels...to keep up with the growing number of people attending.

We are willing to plan for the event, and we can figure out a meet/greet place for dinner locally...or maybe do a big BBQ set up right there in the camp area if that works for everyone???

By doing the meet and greet during the rally, it allows everyone to get together AND also enjoy a great rally, along with a decent concert each year also. Besides, I would sure like to see 50+ VTX's lined up along the fence in the camping area. O0

I'm not sure what else is involved, but seems to be a logical choice to me. Let us know what you think?? WHOS UP FOR THIS? If not, thats no problem at all....either way, we'll be going to this rally and just figured volunteering to create this as a Statewide Meet and Greet would be a Win/Win situation. Let us know what you think!!

La. rates right up there with Houston, I would rather just go around it. I will admit, Houston does have better music and all the songs don't sound the same. 8)

I know you were kidding, I just get pissed that Texas is so dang big and that everything different is so far away.
I will admit, up close and personal to a windfarm excites me more than a rally. It blows my mind how something that big can turn with so little wind.
Actually, I have my vacation planned in October and was going the other direction. Mainly because I have never been. Of course, I've never been to Big Bend either. :-\ O0

So you ruptured the disc between the 4th and 5th AND the 5th and 6th. Don't do anyhing halfass do you? ;D I just blew one, don't think I could have made the trip you made with that pain. Good drugs, or you're one tough hombrey.
They should be able to fix that as an out patient deal by now.

Take care of that back...don't think they have mastered replacing those yet....something about that spinal columns scares em I think. ::)

I'm waiting for my MRI results. One of my lumbar discs is having serious issues. Like VTRex, fine while I'm riding (that ultimate seat is the best) but standing or walking is a killer.

I won't see the bone Doc. till the 29th.. Now I have pneumonia and a dark spot on my lung!!! One thing after another !!! We will have to compare MRI's at the next meet and greet... O0 O0 :P ;D ;D :D

Several of us are already signed up for the South Padre Island Bike Fest 9-12 Oct and was wondering if the two dates will conflict. Of course everyone here would love to see it in Bandera.

I dont know how many bikes should be expected for a statewide meet and greet, but im thinking that we should be able to get 20-30 VTX's from across the great state of Texas to make the trip? Seems to me that with texas being so big, a one day "statewide" meet and greet isnt possible as a day trip if you want to get a good turn out..... Just my 2 cents. I wasnt trying to steal the thread or start a war either....I just read the post, and it sounded early on like the general consenses was that yall were looking for someone to offer up a location or make a decision on where a Statewide meet and greet could be held. Because of the rally in Snyder, and with me living here...just seemed like a no brainer to add that option to the list of possibities.

I've already got a "welcome banner" for VTX riders, there is a rally going on with plenty of stuff to do, free camping for the tenters, and there are some RV spots (but not sure if any are still available) food and drinks on site, Vendors...beer gardens ON the Grounds, a night parade on Friday a poker run saturday morning, and a concert on Saturday night. I have no problem bring my grill from the house over to the fairgrounds so a BBQ is possible.

Pull those bikes out of the garage, dust em off, wash em, wax em, and throw some dang mileage on em! I do realize its a good run for those in South texas, but the Dallas/Ft area is a mere 4 hours away!! Lets see, 100 mph average (easily accomplished riding a VTX on the highway) and 260 miles. Thats about a 3 hour trip with gas stops....LMAO!! Ok ok, maybe not, but its around 4 hours doing speed limit, and under 5 with gas and food stops.

Whether or not this becomes a statewide meet and greet location, if your interested in coming...here's a link to our Thread on the Rally because myself and Murray are going to be there either way.....LOL! O0 Im not trying to give anybody a hard time, just offering up the idea and most importantly, keeping this posting on the top so it can be viewed, and comments made.

There was about 6000 registered riders at the rally last year in case you were wondering how big it was last time. This will be the third year and its growing each year!

In the meantime...There is a Rally in Lubbock Texas that we are attending this coming weekend (August 22-24) and the Golden Aspen Rally in Ruidoso New Mexico is coming up too (Sept 17-21), and we are headed West 6 hours (about 300 miles) for that one!! The centralized statewides would of course get the most participation, but we'll get a few to show up out there. Mapquest shows two snyders, one north of lubbock and one just north of sweetwater. Which one is it?

We now have 2 people making the run from Spring Texas all the way to Snyder (467 miles), so I think that qualifies as a Statewide meet and greet!! LOL....Taking the bull by the horns at this point, and making Snyder an official Statewide meet and greet!
