2003 GoldWing
« on: August 16, 2016, 07:10:23 AM »

I have a co-worker that may be trading a boat for a 2003 Wing and was wondering about parts, problems, etc for a 13 year old model.  Anyone have knowledge of these?  The bike looks cherry from the pics and only has 30K miles on it so it's not even broken in yet.

The biggest problem with older Goldwings are a result of wrecks.

Most will tell you they are 200,000 miles plus type of bike .

A very quick search turned up a frame recall, a brake recall and a overheating recall.  I didn't know Harley made the Goldwing.

On that note, all recalls have been done.  I am rooting for him!!

That bike was built in Marysville Ohio probably by previous HD employees.  :stickpoke: If the recalls have been done, I would get it and ride it. My friend has an 03 with 103000 on it and hasn't had any of those problems. It still runs like new and he rides hard. Get it, a boat is a hole in the water you throw money into unless your Lucky and Wayne who actually uses theirs.

The biggest headache on the 2001-2004 is that if the alternator goes out it is a major undertaking to fix. 2005 and up they fixed that problem.

Of Course it's dirty. It's hard to clean when the tires keep moving.

He ddin't get the trade.  I think the guy was asking like $12K for the bike and that is a bit overvalued even for a low mileage.  I was helping my buddy look and there are a bunch of really reasonably priced ones out there.  I almost started thinking I wanted one....

Thanks.  He sold the boat and is looking at a 2006 with about 42K on the ODO for $7000.  I'll post up if he ends up getting it.

That would be a good deal if he didn't wreck it or some other thing.

It's close to the Galveston shore...not sure of the corrosion factor.  As you know, the one we looked at yesterday was a bonified TURD.  He's still looking, trying to find a decent Wing for $7K or less is pretty hard but eventually something will come up.

$7000 will get a nice 1500 and alot of people prefer them or an older model Valkerie. The Interstate model is very cool. For about 10k he could probably get a new Valk as they are not selling. Runs the same drive train as the GW.

Never buy anything that has lived in Galveston for any amount of time.  It will be a piece of rust crap............true story.  I didn't buy but I had two friends that moved over there because of women and their bikes rusted to crap.  They thought about selling but nobody wanted a pitted bike.
