Title: Friday night Dinner
Post by: j1mmyj4m on August 22, 2007, 10:23:18 AM
Since Paul is bailing on Fridays get together, do we have some ideas about where to have it?

not bailing azz ;D I just may not attend. I just prefer to be on the island this year. I have a reserved spot at the Gravity bar on the Strand Friday & Saturday 8)

Unfortunatley it's hard to please everyone but it will work out. I thought maybe we would all come to ur place ;D ;D ;D

Back to our regularly scheduled thread.........................

Brock, do you think this is something we pretty much acknowledge will have to be held off the island due to the crowds?

If so, would the idea of having to contend with the Bolivar Ferry be a huge problem?  If not, I should have an inside line on a spot if it isn't already being used for something special.

It's my understanding that many want to have the meet outside of the rally to make it easier to get around.  The ferry during the rally is going to be rediculous.

Basing this on any inside info. or just assumptions?  Last year, the wait for a ferry back to Bolivar side was less than 20 mins., and from Bolivar back to the island after 11 pm was less.

Just mentioning an option.  I am much more familiar with things on my side of the ditch than yours, so perhaps it is time for someone from the South/Southeast side of town to step-up and make a move?

I would stay away from the Ferry... Takes forever!!

I would think that at this late of notice, the type of place that we would want ( similar to Seabrook Beach Club) may be difficult to arrange for our size of a group.  Those of you who live that way, are places such as Noah's, T-Bone Tom's, or perhaps Cruisers an option?

I am just trying to think of places that would be easy for all to get to; those attending the rally, as well as those not.

Noahs has the upperdeck but is outside. Damn, Beach club :'( :'(

Have any of ya'll been to the Hooter's on the Seawall there is plenty of room on the patio in the back?????????

I would HIGHLY doubt that there would be space for a group as large as ours at a place certain to be packed by the rally crowd.

We are almost forced to get away from the rally area due to the crowds and with a side-goal of trying to incorporate a bit of riding for those unfamiliar with the Galveston area.

That is why I am thinking we are forced back to the mainland or across the ditch.

Chico's on the Seawall is another suggestion there are 2 floors an upper outside deck I know that would be more than enough space.  I live here in Galveston so I'm trying to think of a place that would be sufficient enough.

Sounds like you are just what we need:  someone most familiar with the locale and establishments.  I, for one, am somehow completely unfamiliar with Chico's.  Not sure how I've missed it, but................ ???

Its been there for about 1 1/2 to 2 years its brand new.  I was looking for a website to post so everyone could take a look at it but I didn't have any luck finding one.  If I find some time I can take a few pictures and post them and then everyone can make a decision.  I will also ask around for any other ideas.  Chico's has a Mexican and American menu and a full bar.

This is located close to Stewart Beach I think.   Can't remember the name of the place that was there before.

We are going to see what we can find this weekend. Do we have an idea of about how many people to expect? We should have a round about number for last year and then add some for newbies.

Post by: Txcajun on August 29, 2007, 09:07:11 PM
I think it was somewhere around 80 people last year. With that large of a group is going to be hard to find a place.

Chico's would be perfect for just 80 people I thought it was more people than that.

I cannot see a place on the island during the rally week holding a spot for 80 people :( without some kinda quarantee $$$$$$$

they are not going to want to turn business away while waiting for us to show with 10-100 people. Heck,I understand it's a business. Can you imagine how long it would take to get food if just 40 of us wanted to eat along with the other patrons ::)

That what was great about the SBC :'(

So are we set with Chico's? Was going to spend some time this weekend trying to find someplace off the island. If we are set, then I will make other plans.

If it sounds good to everyone, yes it is a go. They already put my name down for 80 people, all I have to do is let them know what time. O0

I talked to my frined that lives in Clear Lake today, they were going to Seabrook Beachclub. I told her too bad it was closing, she said that deal fell through. I asked her to double-check when she got there and give me a call. She called they are doing something but it is not til 2008. So if we want to go there I it is still open.

When I posted what I heard it came directly from the owners mouth. If you live in Clear Lake you know rumors start everyday.

OK, with that being said I just left a message for Alan to give me a call whenever possible so we can make a decision one way or another.

Actually it's 6.8 miles just outside my distance ;D ;D ;D
