There are two of us up here in Amarillo and one in Lubbock, that come on the board. They put us in with the Dallas bunch though we are more west than you. If you have not done it yet ride 208 north, I took that rout on the way home from BBT, beautiful, from Robert Lee to Clarendon. Very little in the way of plowed fields, and no feed lots. almost no traffic. Check out the old Jail at Clairemont. That may be all thats still there. Watch your gas, a lot of wide open space on that road. Not much in the way of meet and greet places on that road but with our vast numbers out here we could hold a meet and greet in a phone booth.

I'll have to go check it out, I'll look for a phone booth out there, and post a M&G if I find a good one...

We do have green, just not as much, or as tall. North West Texas is a place, most ride through on their way to some other place. We have good roads, though few. It is a long way to any place form here. So those of us here, get lost every chance we get. Its rare but some times we strike highway gold. I hate to see my bros only see what is there from the 4 lane. That is a long boring ride.

Tom Cat
That must have been someone else.
I have worked several train vs Cars acc. over the years as I am a member of the Lubbock Fire And Rescue but they have all been in the Lubbock area.
We ride in the canyons from around the post area up to Caprock Canyons. It beats the 4 lane. perhape we can meet somewhere.
I don't know of any great roads between here and Midland. We use to ride three wheelers in the Sand Dunes near Kermit for many years.

Go east to where 208 turns into 70 ride north or south, you will have great road with no traffic. I rode this from Robert Lee to Clarendon, awhile back. I didn't count cars but there were not many. The only cop I saw was a state trooper in Turkey. Where 208 turns to 70 is a old jail, no town just a jail. No feed lots, very little plowed ground, Great road for us flat landers. To the south is the Goodyear proving track. I don't recall how far south. A good ride any way you choose.
Being a flat lander I enjoyed the rides in Denver, but get spanked by those who know the roads, and are happy riding in 3rd gear. I like to  look at the beautiful country side go by at 70mph with out worrying about running off the road. A few curves and some up and down is nice, but never ending 10 & 20 mph curves, with little time to look up, I can do it, but I don't enjoy it. I still work in high places from time to time, I can do it, I just don't like it. I rode to the top of Mt Evans, looking over the edge of road, didn't happen. I held up traffic from going too slow, but I was scared shitless with a kid on the back, not my own. Traffic be dammed. The man had two boys one rode up with me the other rode down, I am glad I did it, but I have no desire to do it again.
Years ago when I was very young I rode to the Grand Canyon, looked over the edge, much like Chevy Chase, in Vacation, good enough, I fired up the old Puch 250 and went north.
As you well know the area around Cap Rock Canyons has some good roads This is part of that just farther east.

take 380 west to fm 669 to gail catch hwy 180 in gail, and go west to Lamesa.....from there hwy 87 back to Lubbock!

the canyons in Slaton are a fun short ride.... O0

Would really like to meet some fellow X riders....maybe at the Texas Cafe (better know as the spoon)
50th & Knoxville in lubbock....on Wednesday nights...(bike nite) 8)

There is a benefit run this weekend 08/11/07 in Lubbock
Visiting Angels   "Golden Years Ride & Rally"

, Security park  (Slide & Brownfield Hwy)

Start: 3502 Slide Road
End:  Silver Falls State Park  just east of Crosbyton  (appx 50 miles on hwy 62/82)
