Trailer Rental
« on: May 22, 2006, 11:02:23 AM »

Let's just say I have a friend that might want to trailer his bike to ROT rather than ride it, where might one find a trailer to do so in the north Dallas area, Mckinney to be exact, or somewhere near?  Preferably one meant for motorcycles, not Uncle Fred's rock hauling trailer from '67 that will "work".

I used the U-Haul route last month. It went well. The small trailer ($14.95/day) did the job for my 1300.
Best make a reservation. The reservation is $5, but it goes toward the final total.

I've been told that Stroker's rents enclosed trailers.

I'd probably go with Uhaul, tho; They have enclosed and open trailers.

I used Uhaw one time to go to the valley. Be sure to request a spare tire. The tread blew off between SA & Corpus on Hwy37. Luckily the guy that filled out my paperwork, had enough foresight to give me a spare.(They aren't equipted with one) After I replaced the tire and was back on the road, I called them and tried to get another spare from another dealership along the way. None to be had. They would have to go out and buy the tire, and couldn't have it for me till after the weekend.

Getting a trailer every once in a while is OK, but, always having to have a toliet and hot plate with you all the time, is over-kill. :P ;D ;D ;D ;D

For those that have used U-Haul..it, did you get the open or enclosed trailers?
I would like to use an enclosed trailer to haul my bike and some luggage and stuff to Fla and back. Just not sure about securing it inside without mounting a chock and anchors.

I've only rented once, and it was an open trailer. I don't know what their set up is on an enclosed one.

I was talking to a customer at one of my friends mechanic shop, and he said him and his wife had rented a u-haul truck to go to Daytona. When they got there and opened the rear door he said he almost started crying. The d-rings on the walls that he tied the bike to had pulled out and he said his bike looked like a dead horse lying on its side. It had also been riding on its side for quite some time. Don't trust the d-rings.

Probably rubbed all the fur off too. :D
