BBQ in BigA's 'hood...
« on: August 20, 2008, 06:22:40 AM »

Okay, so I haven't seen any of you guys in awhile, especially the big man from Belton. I was perusing my Texas Monthly yesterday, the BBQ edition from a couple of months back, and saw one highlighted in his town:

BELTON
Schoepf’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que
Notable decor: Rodeo memorabilia.

The moment we entered the smoke-filled screened-in patio and beheld the meats-a-plenty (brisket, chicken, pork ribs, pork chops, sausage, sirloin, turkey breast, and venison sausage), we knew we were in business. The pitman was patient as we made our exacting selections, then—plop, joy: the tenderest of briskets, the thickest of pork chops, the happiest of bellies.

Rating: 4.5.
702 E. Central Ave., 254-939-1151. Open Mon—Wed 10—8, Thur—Sat 10—9, Sun 11—3.

I'm thinking Saturday, and it'll have to be fairly early, as I have a commitment in mid-afternoon in Austin. I'm thinking leave the Wally World parking lot at 9:00am, back roads up should put us in Belton around opening time. Chime in here if you can make it.   O0

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally wornout, shouting..."What a Ride!"
