:)We will be heading up thru Sterling City, Big Spring, up the back roads to Seminole. I was sent there from Alpine in 1986 and then sent to Austin in 1994....we use to drive from Seminole 75 miles to midland just to see baseball games.!!

I like 158 from Ballinger to Sterling city, I used to ride it quite a bit when I lived in San Angelo.  Get you a good look at them wind farms out there, I think we are supposed to have some of them near sterling city start turning this week (hope they send the birds your way Kenny!)  And if you happen to stop in sterling city to eat you might check out the City Cafe there, and order you up a pancake, if you're a little crazy, up too a triple stack if you need to seek help, they're the size of an x-large pizza...  If you need anything while your in the area, Sterling to Seminole is all pretty close, gimme a holler...

If you're in Cloudcroft looking to put on some extra miles to nowhere, check out the road that goes to Timburon.  It's new, they just paved it a year or two ago, nice & smooth, light traffic, and nice twisties for miles & miles.  There's a scenic overlook with a view of White Sands, and a solar observatory up there if you're into that sort of thing.  Once you get to Timburon, there's nothing there, just a bunch of vacation homes mainly, and a couple of stores that are only open if they feel like it, and no other paved road out except the way you came, but it's nice riding...   Take Hwy 130 off of 82 in Cloudcroft (at the Inn), in a mile or two turn off on Hwy 6563.  Most maps either don't show it or still show it as not paved, but it is...  The speed limit on it is 35 I think, but you can easily do 55 on a bike...  and you're liable to get run over by the locals in their pickups if you don't.

Also, if you're going down the grade on Hwy 82 from Cloudcroft to Alamogordo, it's tempting to boogie down some on the curves, but don't do it.  It's some sort of posted safety zone, lots of hwy patrol, 0 tolerance, and like double the normal ticket amount or something.

Have a good trip!

Wish I was there now.  After spending a month in Cloudcroft in July, I can guarantee you it's cooler there.  Now in Alamogordo, it's gonna be hot.  If you do happen to get on Hwy 130 out of Cloudcroft or from Mayhill, when you get between mile marker 8 and 9 you will see the Ponderosa Pines Golf Course.  Up on the mountain as you look across the golf course is where our lots are.  Sure wish I could be up there right now.  Yall have a great time.  All those roads/hwys mentioned above are fun riding and lots of pic opps.

Thanks, we've got alot to look forward to. I couldn't get a room in cloudcroft or anything we liked in Ruidosa, so we got one in Almogordo, had to have the indoor pool.....and a good one in Carlsbad, if there is such a thing.  She wouldn't stay in the motel 6 we did 25 years ago!!  ;D ;D ;D

:)  We're in Alamogordo right now, man it was hard to keep it under 100 going from Tatum to Roswell to Ruidosa!!!! Straight and flat! At 120 felt like it was still standing still, nothing but prairie to compare it to!

Dang...  I clicked my heels 3 times and repeated "There's no place like the Tularosa Basin"...  What am I doing wrong?

Y'all have a good time out there...

OH HELL!!!!  I grew up in Big Spring. Lived there 22 years. Best part of that town is when you see it in your side mirrors and HWY 87 ahead.

Sorry you had to go through there. If you saw a tumbleweed rolling, it was probably a relative of mine.

Hope y'all are having a great time. Congrats on 25 years!!

:o :o :o ;D    Just got in.  Man we had a GREAT time....Tularosa Basin! Cloudcroft! Ruidosa Downs/Casino! Road 244 twice between Cloudcroft and Ruidosa, great when there wasn't anyone in front of u..  Hwy 130 out of Cloudcroft, and hwy 82 from Cloudcroft toward Artesia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Highway traps between Hope/Artesia, 55mph, wide open roads slow rolling hills!  I was extremely lucky!! In total I bet I passed at least eight law enforcement types already had someone pulled over.  Gotta go back though, didn't take enough pics!!
