If you're in Cloudcroft looking to put on some extra miles to nowhere, check out the road that goes to Timburon. It's new, they just paved it a year or two ago, nice & smooth, light traffic, and nice twisties for miles & miles. There's a scenic overlook with a view of White Sands, and a solar observatory up there if you're into that sort of thing. Once you get to Timburon, there's nothing there, just a bunch of vacation homes mainly, and a couple of stores that are only open if they feel like it, and no other paved road out except the way you came, but it's nice riding... Take Hwy 130 off of 82 in Cloudcroft (at the Inn), in a mile or two turn off on Hwy 6563. Most maps either don't show it or still show it as not paved, but it is... The speed limit on it is 35 I think, but you can easily do 55 on a bike... and you're liable to get run over by the locals in their pickups if you don't.Also, if you're going down the grade on Hwy 82 from Cloudcroft to Alamogordo, it's tempting to boogie down some on the curves, but don't do it. It's some sort of posted safety zone, lots of hwy patrol, 0 tolerance, and like double the normal ticket amount or something.Have a good trip!
:)We will be heading up thru Sterling City, Big Spring, up the back roads to Seminole. I was sent there from Alpine in 1986 and then sent to Austin in 1994....we use to drive from Seminole 75 miles to midland just to see baseball games.!!
