el paso, tx, where to stay
« on: January 08, 2007, 09:43:40 AM »

about 10- 15 of us riders from California are looking for a place off the 10 and the 180 to stay, can any of you guys/gals suggest a place to stay.. I know there are a lot of places on the 10, but I also don't want to worry about the bikes, some of the places off the 10 there just don't look that great to stay in let alone bikes sitting there just waiting to be picked apart  ::)  ..... but I am thinking maybe off the 10 on the 180 since we are heading up to Carlsbad the next morning..  plus one gentleman will have his dog with him, yes his dog loves the motorcycle..

thanks up front

I don't know much about El Paso but you might try the Honda Riders Club or if any of your group are HOG members, that website.  I don't know if the Honda dealership is big but Barnett's is huge.  They run a lot of events out of the El Paso store.  I'm sure that someone would be more than willing to make suggestions so that your group gets in a safe part of El Paso.

Keep us posted on your ride.  Sounds like fun!!!!

thanks guys, looks like they found a motel 6, these guys love motel 6  ;)

well our tombstone run is at the end of March, it is one of our biggest rides of the year, then they ahve the after tombstone run ( thirsday-sunday)..  so we are heading east this year and trying to stay under the 40 because they have gotten stuck in bad weather for the last few years when they venture too far north of the 40 that time of year..

so, we are heading out of tombstone, to el paso for a sleep over, then on to  carlasbad to see the caverns, then to alien town ( roswell  8) ) for the night, then heading out all back roads towards show low, az and up to holbrook, az for the night, then grand canyon scenic ride, and on to vegas for the night, then on to bishop, ca for the night, then I head back south to my town of costa mesa, ca...  this will be my first trip like this with the group, I have done a couple of weekend over nighters, but this will be my first 12 day ride... ( about 15 riders maybe so far for the after tombstone ride..

tombstone is a arizona riders ride and now it is mixed with ca and az riders.. :P:P this will my first time going to this also..

I will post pictures on the vtx board and let you guys know.. :)

O0  When you leave El Paso, make sure everyone fills up with gas on the east side of town. If you are heading out 180, there is only one gas station on 180 between El Paso and Carlsbad. If it isn't open, then you will need to go into Dell City.

Myself and two other guys road the circumference of Texas last April and we also took along some fuel cells, just in case. That was the only stretch that gave us concern.

There is not a gas station at Guadelupe National Park.

We were on two 1300 VTXs Retro and one 1800 VTX C.

Have a good ride and we'll look forward for more details/pics!!

O0  We had stayed at a motel on 180 that had covered parking in front of the room, not very expensive and they had roll=away beds. I don't remember the name, not to far from Barnetts'.
