Well, I have been thinking about leading a ride. Not very characteristic of me as I prefer to ride at the end of the pack most of the time. But we so rarely make a southside ride. So over the last couple weeks, I found a nice park out on the Brazos river with a covered pavillion, and plenty of tables. And ol' Hick got to thinkin' two things are better than one. So now I am dreaming up a South Texas X Riders ride and picnic. I have about a 60-70 mile route roughly laid out that I would like to refine, and maybe add a few miles onto. The ride would start from FM 1462 @ Hwy288, and wind through southern Brazoria county, ending at the before mentioned park in Angleton. Once at the park, we would set down as a group for some BBQ, and fellowship. I have spoken with SteveS, and he is on board for food preparation for the event. I would also probably need a few more volunteers for other types of assistance. So, right now, I am putting the feelers out for how many would be interested in haveing such an event. I am looking at mid May. Give me your thoughts.

Yeah, 8th is Mother's day weekend, so I'm not gonna go there. Debateing between May 1st and May 22nd for the ride. What say you all?

May 1 or 2 - we are open, altho it is the first weekend after BBT
May 15 or 16 - we are open
May 22 or 23 - we are open, altho 22nd is our anniversary

For any of you that are nature lovers and are thinking of making this ride here is some info for you. We ( Hick, myself, Kieth, Mike and Shelly ) all made this ride today just to go over the route. We saw an alligator ( 6' - 8' ), a skunk, a turtle, armadillo, a hawk and an Emu/Ostrich along the way. Of course the some of them were road kill but hey, we still saw them. Going to be a nice ride with several roads with some twisties/curves.

We need to get things finalized in the next few weeks. If you plan to attend, and have not posted on the headcount thread, please do so as we need to know how much food to prepare.
Additionally, MR VTX and Lucky are making potatoe salad for the event. If anyone would like to make a desert to bring, please let me know.

As slow as Gumbo rides, he won't get to the park till everyone else is done eating. LOL
SteveS is our cook for the event. Connie's son and Steve will have everything waiting on us when we pull in.

So far, best I can figure we have about 35 folks scheduled to ride. Looks like it will be a good one.
I met with SteveS today and we rode back out to the Park. We finalized most of the plans for lunch today. Looks like 50 pounds of briskit, 15 pounds of sausage, Cole Slaw, Beans, Potatoe Salad (from Lucky and MR VTX) and all the fixins. We'll have plenty of tea and water too. We will have coolers at the start of the ride if you plan to bring your own liquid refreshment. SteveS will pack them in ice and get them to the park for us. Looking forward to seeing each and every one of you there.

Well, I figure we should be at the park by 12:30. Hopefully start serving food shortly thereafter. Not real sure how long everyone plans to stay, but the pavillion is rented for the whole day. Somebody bring some horseshoes.

Just switched this up. I sent Foreman4by a pm to meet at the Exxon right on the corner of Grand Parkway and Kingsland, since he wants coffee. That's probably a better place too, since any of us can get gas if needed.

Go to Alvin and take Hwy 35S. Turn right at the McDonalds onto FM1462. Take 1462 past Hwy288. Next intersection is FM521.

Joey...you past this intersection (the only one) when you came to my house for Brock/Jen's baby party. Go south on 288 and you will see the FM 1462 exit about 20 miles south of Beltway 8

Starbucks at 7:00 is fine, I live across 517 from the High School.
I'm trying to picture where it is at 3 and 517. One corner is the bank and print shop, one corner is the Church, one corner is Walgreen's and the old Shell station and the last corner is the pawn shop and the little shop that keeps changing owners (not sure what it is right now).
I'll have to look closer on the way home tonight.

OMG...for those of you that did not make this event you REALLY missed a great ride. The ride was outstanding, the weather was perfect, the food was so delicious and the socializing was fun. Cyberhick, you get major kudos for spearheading and bringing this all together. SteveS, there is no way to express how yummy all the smoked meats were. Thank your angelic wife and neighbor for putting in so much work and time to help out. Gumbo, I know you missed riding today, but your help setting up the park and helping with the food was appreciated. Jmdaniel and Beaux43, it was great to see you guys come represent CenTex...and ChadVTX, I am impressed with the mileage you are putting in today (and it is always good to see you too, lol). There were TONS of new faces there today from outside the VTX world. It was great to get to meet so many new people.

Made it home, sent Chad on his way to Dallas! What a great time!! Many thanks to Hick, SteveS, his neighbor, Phillip, and Gumbo for all you did in getting this together! Food was outstanding!
It was great seeing new faces, meeting members of other riding groups!

As everyone said, kudos to Hick for pulling this together. The food was awesome and it was great to see some of the board members and their bikes. There were some sharp rides out there today.

First, MEGA THANKS to the Swing family (SteveS), Steve's neighbor, Gumbo, Connie and her son Phillip, and Carrol for all the work y'all put into cooking and serving up the food. Y'ALL ROCK. Had a great time folks. 47 bikes, but I never got a headcount of people. Great ride. Sorry about the 3rd group getting a bit lost. Everyone arrived safely at the park, and if ya didn't get full of BBQ before ya left, that was your fault, cause we took a LOT of BBQ home. Looking forward to next year. WOW, WHAT A GREAT DAY! My thanks also to Hick for puting this thing on and Mondo Kudos to Steve, I think that maybe some of the Best BBQ ever! and I'm kinda picky when it comes to BBQ! Left the house at 3am and got back at 8:10pm. Rode 685 miles today and 12 hours + in the saddle and boy I am ready for a shower!! Did I say I rode 685 miles today?? LOL I hear the roaring of my exhaust still! 8)

i am not sure what happened.
Jim and I got up early Friday to get his Bass Boat out of the shop. It had to have major stuff done. Went to Academy and bought some of those fancy dancy life preserves. They look like suspenders. I started feeling bad. Dawned on me I haven't eatten anything but being I was feeling bad just ate a burger. Then kept going. Went to the TP&W Dept to get his boat reregistered. Got home got real sick, fever and all. Slept off and on for the rest of the day. Saturday was still feeling sick. At 1st I thought the flu. Nope. Was feeling OK Sunday.
I should have driven to Steve's Sunday to get some of that left over BBQ.... :bikerider:
