So, I'm new to the scene.  Can anyone suggest a good short one day roadtrip from the southeast side of town?

I hear ya on that one!
We're thinking about making the ride down to Matagorda for the day or something.  I heard 2004 is a decent ride down through Lake Jackson.
I just like all the opinion I can get.
We're just looking for a good day trip.

If you're wanting a good ride and get back home in the same day I'd recommend 149 and surrounding backroads in Conroe.  I'm sure several that live in that area can help you.  I'll look at mapping something after this weekend when I get back in town.

Galveston on Hwy 6, then the seawall road to Freeport (Hyw 332)($$cost 2 dollar for the bridge) to 523-west to 36-north to 2611-west  to 457-north to 521-west to Wadsworth (Hwy 60 North) through Bay City up to Lane City (Hwy 442-East) to Needville (Hwy 36-south) to Hwy 1462-east back to Alvin.

We want a same day ride.  I'm thinking leave around 9am and home around 3pm.  We want to stop for lunch and just enjoy the ride for awhile.
The Conroe trip sounds nice.  Any help is awesome.

Becareful riding up 2004 in Hitchcock, speed trap city with the city cops and state troopers galore.  Nice area to ride through though.

You could head east on I-10 to the Hankamer exit (I think exit 812) - Hwy 562 south to the intersection with 1985.  From there turn right to Smith's Point.  One of the best places to watch migratory birds of prey.  From there head back on 1985 to 124.  At that intersection you can choose to go north to Winnie then right on 73 and find Pine Tree Lodge.  Good fish.  Lot of bikes and music on the weekend.  Crowded as heck.

Alternatively, from the intersection of 1985 and 124, head south to High Island, turn right.  Go though Boliver.  You could eat at the Stingeree or cross the ferry and find something to eat in Galveston.

Thanks for all the awesome ideas!  We'll keep them all in mind for future rides.  We have chosen to take Alt 90 out towards Brenham.  We'll take some photos along the way and post them.
Thanks again!

Hitchcock is a speed trap but Santa Fe is following in their foot steps at a fast pace. I know, I live in SF.  If you go through bolivar, watch out for the Galveston County Sheriff. (He is my son.)

If you want company for a Galveston county / Brazoria County, ride just let us know, It's the riding time of the year and we're ready to go.
