I was going to take 69 to Beaumont. Then down to high island and ride the coast to the ferry. Didn't want to ride downtown H-town traffic with the wife on back. Wife will now be caging it to haul stuff for our daughter. I am going to leave about 7:30am, hit 45 and open it up. I have been known to make it in 4 hrs with stops.

If I am not mistaken you will have to hit the costal rd in Winnie, I do not think 87 is open all the way yet.  I am not sure about that, just something you might want to check on.

high island to galveston is OK

the section from High Island to Sea Rim state park is closed...
If you go around the barrier at the high island side, you will quickly run in to very sandy roads, and a nudest colony.....   you don't want to see either on the bike.

High Island to the beach road is open. They have been having a few problems with a couple of low spots around high tide (during some heavy thunderstorms), but you can still ride down and take the ferry on to the island. We will be heading down early Thursday morning.  :c :c :c

I usually take 10 thru Beaumont to Winnie take 124 down to high island Then 87 to the ferry. The ride through the piney woods is nice and then finish off with the coast rd. Takes a little longer than 45 but it is a decent ride. Although last 2 times I did that ride got caught in storms.
