(Off Topic) Galveston Cruises
« on: June 07, 2006, 08:54:49 AM »

Since we do not have an Off Topic Board I decided to put it here. Has anyone taken a cruise out of Galveston?

I am thinking about doing this in October and was looking for some feed back. Like what section of the boat to stay and whatever else you may think is important

Thanks

I haven't been out of Galveston, but have been crusing. I know the Royal Caribbean ships are nicer, but the Carnival ships are more of a "party" ship. I went on the Royal Carribean out of Miami and loved it. I want to do it again soon.
As far as a room to stay in, they are all pretty small unless you want to spend big $$$. It's ok though because you are only in them to sleep. If you get sea sick, I heard it's best to stay in a lower floor room towards the center of the ship. They don't move as much as the higher rooms towards the front and rear. Also, the inside rooms (with no windows) stay pitch black dark in the middle of the day if you like to stay out all night and sleep into the day. Not much to see out the window when out to sea anyway and like I said earlier, you are only in the room to sleep.

We went on the Elation last year was suppose to be the Ecstasy but they took the Ecstacy to N.O. It is great I want to do it again. There is the Norweigion line that goes out  I heard it was nice to go on. But as a quick get away the cruises out of Galveston were great. I have never been on Royal Carribean but the Carnival ones were alright for partying. 8)

We went on the Royal Caribbean out of Galveston a year ago and loved it. I needed to have a room with a balcony and they were the ship that had it then.  When you go out of Galveston you spend more time on board since they do the Western Gulf.  When I found out we were going to Costa Maya I was pissed.  The when we got there it was the best stop.  Take the dune buggy trip. The total cost was about $2K for both of us and I had a drink with an umbrella in my hand most of the time.  I won 1/2 the $2K the 1st night in the casino (Never went back in the casino the rest of the cruise)

Got married on the Grand Princess that sailed out of Galveston on 11/25/05. Went with 57 others in our wedding party, had a blast.

I wouldn't do Princess again, though, as our ship was kinda old and showed the wear. Cruised on a Royal Carribbean out of Miami a couple years ago, much nicer. Stay towards the middle of the ship, and get yourself a balcony. Worth the extra cash, to me....  O0

We sailed on RC out of Galveston, a couple of years ago, and loved it.  A suite is a must.

We just got back from  a Royal Caribbean cruise in the Gulf.  Rhapsody of the Seas, 7 nights to Key West, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel.  Not a bad trip, but the ship is not the best of the fleet.  Our room had rust, worn out carpet, and below average a/c.    We had a cabin on deck 3 with two large windows, and that is probably why we could not keep it cool. They had some large groups that partied a lot, so you could always find someone that ws having a good time and drink with them.  They are kid friendly too, with the day-care program that they have on board (niece & nephew).  Very relaxed atmosphere, 2 formal nights if you want to go, or the buffet was almost always open.
