ROT Rally
« on: April 23, 2006, 01:31:14 PM »

Ok, who's going to the ROT Rally in June? Anyone heading down from DFW? Myself and a couple of buddies are leaving Thursday morning. Would like to know what route's to take to avoid riding 35 all the way from Dallas. I don't mind getting on it around Waco or places south. Any suggestions?

I am heading down Thursday morning also.
I think that 35 won't be so bad on a early week day ??   I went down 35 last year and it wasn't to bad.
BUT  I am also looking at other routes.

Best and most scenic route:

Take 20 and go west thru FTW, and turn south on 281, or...  take 67 S-W toward Stephensville, but take 220 (to the left) to Hico where you will pick up 281 and head south.  (Stop at the Koffee Kup while in Hico.)

When you get to Lampasas you can take 183 S-E and enter Austin from the N-W, (hate it), or... as I prefer, go on down to Johnson City and take 290 east to Austin (adds 45 mins to an hour).

Be sure to ride the Hill Country while you're down there!!

If you do decide to take 35, be sure and watch for all the debris on the road, and take a tranqualizer to get you thru the Austin traffic!

We'll be leaving from Lewisville/Farmers Branch/Dallas/Irving Thursday AM ourselves.

We've all three got our tickets also. Staying at the Embassy Suites North but have some friends with RV's that we can "opt" to stay with if the party's still going. I guess I should have mentioned that we're coming from the Rockwall, Mesquite area so going all the way past Ft. Worth is kind of WAY out of the way. lol

Maybe we can set up an XRIDERS ride while were down there.

Would be great to see a bunch of X's together for a hill country ride.

I took thar route last year and loved it, very few cages around and lots of peeps heading down that way.

Arkie, out of Rockwall, there is only 2 was out.

1. Down 34 to Terrell and Kuafman, then to Italy. This ties into I35 at Hillsboro.

2. I20 to Hwy 67 to Glen Rose to 220 to Hico, as posted by Dallas Retro. I took this route last year, great ride.

Either way, is better than going down I35 in the mornings.

BTW, comming back I35 on Sunday morning is ok, made it back by 1:00 pm, left at 8:00 am and 45 min stop.

There's a bunch of us riding down from Dallas Thursday morning:  We'll probably do the 20/67/220/281/290/16 route to Kerrville, and stop to let people peel-off to Austin.

Friday we'll be riding in the Hill Country and then over to Austin for the parade that night.  Some will go to the Rally Saturday, the rest will ride the Hill Country and to Fredericksburg.  Some coming back Saturday, others on Sunday.  If anyone wants to ride with a small group they're welcome.

There might be too many stops for some folks, since there will be several girls going, but we try to get them to hold it 'til somone needs gas!
