go test ride one and see if you still would think that way.they are pretty lucky to go further than 110 miles on a tank, thats enough reason for me right thar. but, i do like the way they kick the $hit out of a HD.

I have been on one but then I thought my bike felt faster.
What kind of gas milage do you guys get with the a power comander and diffrent pipes?

I have a  2002 1800c Vtx and have a PCIII, thunder breather, jardine pipes and I get on a regular basis 42 miles to the gallon. Have a 4.5 gallon tank, so puts me about 160-170 before fill-up. My reserve light comes on about 140. That is not saying every once in a while I CRANK IT UP down the road but still gets good gas mileage!!  8)

I'm NOT calling the 1300 a weak sister.

But if you're on a Skateboard going 80, that will probably feel faster than riding on a ZX-14 going 160.  Just sayin'.

Yamaha just came out with a 1300Vstar fuel injected... more power than honda VTx 1300   I would wait, I bet you that Honda will put fuel injection to the 1300 soon...  If you really want an 1800 get the M109R with has alot more power, better brakes, 240 rear tire (if it matter to you) a clock, tach, and is cheaper.

1800 are ok but I think Honda got cocky with their succes and increased the price with out doing anything major to improve the bike,  an m109R will leave a VTX1800 in the dust.

I have a 1300 and I like it, If I had an 1800, I think I also would like it,   bigger doe not nessesarily mean better.  I have a sport bike that helps with my need for speed...  good luck with your choice

Doesn't ride as well, less comfortable for longer rides, less accessories, less classic looks, who needs a tach on a v-twin cruiser?  Cheaper?  Hm.  I don't recall being floored by the price.

for the money, M109R is still a better bike...  don't get mad at me, get mad at Honda :)

I can't speak to the differences cuz I have an 1800 and have never ridden a 1300.
I do like the weight of the 1800.  I drive mine to work frequently, on freeways and
big trucks don't hardly phase me....

Smooth... I love that radiator cover !!!  where'd you get it ?

I get about between 170 and 200 miles out of a 5.3 gallon tank.  On a mellow week the light blinks from 150 to 170 and is on from 170 and ^.  BTW at racetrack yesterday I put in 5.27 gallons.  I havn't gauged it recently since I got the PC3.

I rode a 1300 and absolutly hated the clutch.  I actually killed it twice before it moved.  I do like the idea of the smaller frame.  It seems to turn alot easier.  Then agian I would perfer a sport bike.

I agree with everyone else.  Ride one to see if you can man-handle the beast. Most importantly, spend the little extra and get the spec 2.

I'd like to know what VTX you're riding that gets that good a mileage and has a 5.27 gallon tank. My C has a 4.5 gallon tank and on a good slow trip, 70 or less gets 110 before the light. I ride with sevearl other Xr's that have almost idntical results. If I am running 80 it comes on like clockwork at 95miles. Please tell us you're magic ;) ;)

As long as my air filter is clean and the plugs are good I can get between 120 and 130 before the lights comes on and that's 2 up.  Occasionaly it will come on earlier, but that's usually due to my wrist.

By myself I can get between 130-140 before it comes on.

I have an '03 C.

I have an '05 1800R2....I too usually get between 130-140 miles before my reserve light comes on. I just like the look and "feel" of the 1800 vs. the 1300. Both are great bikes in my opinion. I like the floorboards on the Retro, just makes my riding more comfortable. I have them on the back also. I think my "better half" appreciates them when she's riding with me because she is alot more comfortable also. I love the linked back brake. I rarely ever use the front brake unless I have to make a very hard or emergency stop. There are many pros and cons when it comes to the 1300 vs. the 1800. I just think you should pick the bike that mosts fits you and your riding style. Just my $ 0.02

My light always seems to come on way before anyone elses when we are riding. Even when I am not playing around.

UPDATE:  Michele and I met some of the DFW folks for lunch and a ride today.  I now have 110 miles on the bike and no light is lit up yet.   :)  I am going to milk it a little and see how far it will get me before the light comes on.

Not mad, I just disagree.  It's not a better bike.  It's certainly better at some things.  If those are your ultimate values, then FOR YOU it is a better bike.  For me it is not.

I have 2 VTX 1800s and love both of them but, if I had to do it all over again I would have just kept my 1996 VT-1100 ACE that was loaded with extras and saved a bunch of money.  But, Jonesing for newer and bigger bikes is normal and I know just how you feel.  But guess what else,  I had just as much fun on the VT-1100 as I do my VTXs.  The pure pleasure of riding is not that much difference after you pass 1000cc in my opinion. Sure the bigger bikes go a little faster and ride a little better on long rides but that's not that much difference in the big picture.  Looking back again, I could of taken all that money I spent on the VTXs and bought different toy, something for the house, gone on a trip or just blown it on strippers.  Nonetheless, it's not that much difference in pure riding enjoyment between the 1300 and the 1800. Hey, if it's paid off just enjoy what you have and have fun. My 2 cents worth.

Thanks Guys, I needed to get some advice. As for the M109. I would not trade my 03 1300 for 2 of them. Sorry guys, I think it is UGLY, I love the look of the VTX all of them. I just think I will look around if i find a good deal on an 1800 Same color and style I will get it. but if not I will keep my 1300. I have a work bud that has an 1800 and He can not keep up with me in any gear. not to get the 1800 guys upset. He has the stock computer. and aftermarket pipes. But the real reason I wanted the 1800 is the linked breaks.
Thanks again guys

I thought the c was 3.5.  Well the main thing is most of these x's have the fuel pump in the tank.  Mine is under the bike where your coolant is. My coolant resides unbetween the jugs on the oppisite side of the filter. This gives me a true 5.3 gallons plus what ever is in the neck.  This was one of the main reasons I got a neo. Its all mostly stock.  I have stock exaust w/o Baffles, stock intake w/o snorkle or smog equip. and a pc3.  I basicly chopped the top part of the airfilter housing off to let it breath better.
