Are most people just making this a day ride thing or staying the night?  I'm thinking for me a day ride, but haven't completely thrown the idea out of staying the night.

Anyone coming from the Dallas can see about meeting in Canton and ride down HWY 19 to
Crockett. If any others want to meet in Miller Grove and ride down would be fine with me.
Right at 2 hours 40 minutes from me. 131 miles.

sent them a e mail yesterday and got one back from Thompson's BBQ and reads:

Howdy!
Just wanted to send you a e mail asking about if you have enough space for a group of 40? Might be a little more depending
on the weather. I am in a group of Honda Motorcycle riders and we have a State wide Meet and Greets once or twice a
year and you have some of the best BBQ in the state and looks like a very nice place to have lunch for our group.
We are looking at riding to your area for lunch on the 22 of October. Would that be a problem for you all?
I hope not and will be looking for a reply.
 Thanks again!
  Chad Holden

Hey Chad, come on and join us, we will look forward to seeing you guys. Give us  a call if you need direction info. 936-544-5193.

Hmmmm, lets see Go to Daughter's District UIL Marching Band Competition or M&G, tough choice.  Will have to ask her to make sure she is okay with it; I usually try not to miss any of my kids stuff.

Damn, I had my hopes up about this one until my wife burst my bubble. In-laws have a camp on Toledo Bend, and Crockett is only about 2 hours away. We were going to go up there for the weekend and ride over for the M&G. That was, until my wife reminded me that it's the same weekend as a local festival that we never miss. Guess I am gonna miss out on some good Texas BBQ, crap. Maybe next time.

Guess there is just no way to make a small ride in THE STATE when you live where I do ... Panhandle to East Texas ...

Looking forward to meeting a lot of folks ....

Anyone between Lubbock and Crockett headed that way ??

Know the feeling of "isolation" being at the corner of the state gives...Hey, we used to have a guy called snakebite that had a "steakout" at his place in Borger, I believe its north of where you live, 565 miles and a really early start got me there for dinner! Great steak. Lots showed...even quite a few from CO.

Your right I wasn't born here, but have lived here in Schertz since 1973.

You are correct about San Antonio not traditionally being in CenTex.  In the real world, we are SouthCenTex.  We like to identify ourselves that way since we actually ride our bikes down here  :stickpoke:.v :ohwow:

But since the board doesn't have a SouthCenTex area, we are forced to align ourselves as CenTex (as the board description states)
"Central Texas
This area covers all Hill Country. San Antonio, Austin, Kerrville and surrounding cities. "

I'm riding out of Plano, I wouldn't mind meeting up someplace on 635 with others. But I was thinking about going down 175 to Jacksonville, then 69 down to alto and 21 into Crockett.

Okay, for the Houston crew, we obviously have quite a few of us that will be going.  The subject of a group ride up there has been mentioned, but I know alot of us don't like riding in really large groups.  With that being said, if you have formed a small group of riders, post up and let us know who is included in your group, and what general route you're planning to ride to get there.  I don't mind leading larger groups, and I'm planning a nice leisurely ride up there without breaking the law (too much).  ;D

I am going to try and map out a route exclusively on the east side of 45, just because I want to try some new roads and because Crockett is on that side.  The ride will be leisurely enough that we'll get there when we get there.  Obviously with this many people attending, if we all got there at 12 noon, they probably couldn't handle that amount of people ordering food at the same time anyway.  If we arrive at different times, that will help alleviate the burden on the wait staff.  And of course, for those that haven't been to a MnG this size, please be patient with your food order and the time it takes to get it.  Just be prepared for some extra wait time...just sayin'.

Alright Houston...post up your group of riders so we know who is included, and let us know how big (or small) you'd like the group to be.  Some people may want to join into your group if the space exists.

Lucky, Luckys Lover, Larry_357, plus 1-2 non-forum riders will be leaving the CVS at I-45 and Crosstimbers at 9:30am.  We will head up I-45 and then take off onto 75 at New Waverly.  Hitting some FM roads than then eventually coming into Crockett on Hwy 19.  This is a stick close to the speed limit group.

I can lead a group from FM 2920 and Rhodes (Valero Station on northwest corner). Basicly about a 175 mile ride up, eastside of I45, may shorten it a bit.  As far as I know right now...2 of us (Lynn and I) taking this route, possibly 3 (Gumbo)....speed limit, maybe a tad over! ::)  I have the route in .gdb format and can email to anyone wanting the route. :bikerider:

Would like to keep group to 6-8 bikes, but if more, ok!

I'll try to get this up in a map format, but here is the ride I have planned out.  It's about 150 miles and should take maybe 2.5-3.5 hours depending on the size of the group and how many stops we need to make.  I'm riding this today to check all roads and will make any changes necessary to make this a safe but fun ride up.

1.  Meet at Tailgator's on 242 just east of 45 around 8:30am.  KSU at 9:00am.  Address is 8000 Highway 242 Conroe, tx
2.  Head east on 242 to FM 1485
3.  Head north of FM 1485 to Highway 105
4.  Head east on Highway 105 to FM 1725
5.  Head north on FM 1725 to Highway 150
6.  Head east on Highway 150 into Coldspring and pick up 156.
7.  Take 156 to 190
8.  Take 190 to FM 980
9.  FM 980 to Highway 19
10.  Highway 19 to Loop 304 in Crockett
11.  Loop 304 to Thompson's BBQ

So who all is planning on going in this group?

Unfortunately, I have to back out of the ride today.  I've lost my front brake, and I'm pretty sure it's the master cylinder piston that is shot.  I've been needing to bleed my brakes for awhile now, and since I have the speed bleeders, it literally takes me about 20 minutes total for both master cylinders.  Well, the back went fine, but when I went to do the front, I lost all pressure to the caliper.  I emptied the brake line & tore down the caliper and cleaned it really well.  I tried my old stock brake line, my old banjo bolts and even my old bleeder valves.  Nothing...zilch...nada...it has to be the master cylinder piston.

I'm tired and heading off to bed.  I hope that David can lead the way since I e-mailed him the route for his GPS.  If you want to take the straight shot, just take 45 to 19 to Loop 304 in Crockett.  Sorry that this happened...I was absolutely looking so forward to this ride...I guess that's what I get for trying to maintenance the night before.

I think I'm gonna torch my bike in the backyard tomorrow...who cares about a burn ban.  >:(

Jason
Your problem is most likely the Speed Bleeders.  Don't get me wrong, I have them on most of my bikes and love them for what they can do when doing just a routine fluid change or minor bleeding procedure.  Unfortunatley Speed Bleeders have a hard time passing a lot of air due to the presence of the check valve, the realitivley small displacement of the master cylinder and the compressibility nature of air.  The MC may in fact be bad but chances are the master cylinder is fine.  To get the system purged, you must bleed the master cylinder completely first in order to move fluid through the rest of the system.  Do it at the banjo bolt connection with hose connnected but loose.  Due to the location, it will be messy so be careful.  Once you get the MC bled, you MUST replace the caliper Speed Bleeders with the OEM bleeders (or remove them completely) and bleed the caliper until you get fluid, then reinstall the Speed Bleeder and finish.  Because the system is a dual split front system, you may have to remove or replace all the down stream bleeders until you get fluid through the majority of the system and to each individual caliper location before you can put the Speed Bleeeders back on and finish.  Speed Bleeders just don't have the ability to pass the air in mass that is needed to bleed the system when the MC can only push as little fluid as it does.  Even with the MC totally bled and pushing a full stroke, that small fluid mass can not compress all of the air in the system enough to open a SB and eventually pass fluid through it. I've worked with Speed Bleeders quite a bit and know thier habits.  A vacum pump placed on the caliper is also a way to go to get the system full.  You could also reverse fill the system from the caliper and push it up through the MC if you have a hand pump that will facilitate that procedure.  That method works great and it's an easiy way to get ALL the air out.  Manufacturers fill their systems like that.
Good luck with it.  Give me a call if you need to. I sent you a PM.

As you can tell by the time of this post, I'm not on the BBQ ride either.   :banghead:
Last night I managed to injure my left eye.  I don't think it's bad but it's swollen shut and hurts like a mother fu#$ker.  I'm going to see a doctor in just few minutes.  Durring my years of welding and fabrication I managed to injure my eye a couple times but I never thought I would hurt it with orange juice!  OK stop laughing................OJ is actually pretty acidic and can do a number on you as I have found out the hard way because I didn't flush my eye enough after the incident.  :banghead:
I suspect it's a minor chemical burn that drugs can take care of.

I hope the ride goes well for the group.  Wish I was there.

Back from the emergency room.  Turns out it was metal debris in my eye.  It probably got in my eye during the bikes oil change in preparation for the BBQ ride ( I didn't get to go on).  Funny thing was..........as I was getting under the bike for the oil change, I told myself to put on my safety glasses like I always do but instead I put on just my reader glasses because they were closer than the safety glasses.   Lesson to be learned here..............Wear your SAFETY glasses.  That's the third time I've gotten metal in that eye ball.  About 30 years ago I had a metal splinter stuck in the eye ball when a chisel broke that a fellow worker was hammering on.  He was about 20 feet away when it broke and flew into my eye.  In the ER today, the doctor could see that previous scar on the eyeball using a black light and tinted dye procedure transmitted to a TV monitor to highlight surface debris on the eyeball.  I could see the previous scar and the current metal debris that was irritating my eye on the screen.  Technology is pretty cool.
Turns out the orange juice was only a contributing irritainent.  I accidently splashed it in my eye about 10 minutes after I did the oil change.  Rubbing my eye after the juice incident caused the metal debris to scratch the eyeball and the presence of the acidic juice aggravated the injury like salt in a knife wound.
Wish I had walked the additional four feet to pick up those safety glasses.   :banghead:   :banghead:   :banghead:

Hindsight is 20/20.  Pun intended.

Mike, tahnks for the info...I did try to reverse bleed from the caliper, but nothing entered the MC.  I'll try again later...just been relaxing today.

Glad you got your eye taken care of.  Last night when I was bleeding the rear, I was under the bike with no eye protection...definitely not a good idea.  Then when I was cleaning the front caliper with brake cleaner, a small amount of spray hit my right eye.  Working on the bike in the wee hours of the morning is not smart.

I went to the meet and greet today in Crockett. I got to meet some very nice folks.  I can remember a few names. Otherwise, I had a great time, met nice people, got some ideas about modifying my bike.  Thompson's was a great little family- owned BBQ place.  Great food at a great price. They were really nice folks. I would recommend Thompson's for a day trip stop.  The weather was great and there were lots of folks that attended.  :c  I want to thank all involved in coordinating the event.  I had a good time. Thanks.

Meet and Greet was fun today! Funny little adventure for me actually.

Since I don't know a lot of Xers, or bikers in general... T-Bird was nice enough to invite me to ride with his crew down there. So i got my tail up bright and early at 6am (and i'm a bartender so that is SUPER early......) and headed to downtown dallas. Met up with T-Bird and crew and he made a comment about my rear tire being a bit bald. I laughed a little because I knew it was getting bad... what I didn't realize is that I had about a 6 inch strip of belt showing through  :banghead:. We decided it would be a bad idea to make the 3-4 hour trip on that tire so sadly I rode away in the opposite direction as they went on for the fun. I stopped at the Honda dealer and got my new tire... couldn't bear the thought of not riding for a while. At this point I figured I'd find something else to do with my day but I had a change of heart after I got the tire and headed down to Crockett anyway!!!!

Turned out to be a great day, met new people, like hooter, snake, and iceman. I even got pulled over on my way down  :couch:, but the cop was a biker too and cut me some slack!!!

Great day! thanks for everyone who coordinated!!!

We had a GREAT time.  It was so nice to meet people that you have chatted with and seen online and finally get to put a face with (like Sssssnake).  It was also nice to see some old friends that I haven't seen in months.  The food was very good, the weather was perfect and the ride was very enjoyable.  Even tho we had problems with Warren's bike on the way down, I would say this was a perfect day.  Thanks Chad for organizing it.  It was a total success according to me.

Chad, thanks again for putting this together.  It was a great day and it was good to see lots of folks out.

Jason, had no problems with the route and I am sorry that you did not make it.  Had a nice ride back with Lucky and friends, even though I cut out a little early to head straight home.

Glad to see that everyone make it home safe.

Had a good time and was really good to see the turn out! Saw a lot of old faces and many new ones too, glad they made the trip. Those that met up in Hillsboro. thanks and I hope you enjoyed the choice of back roads there. It's kinda hard to pick a totally bad route when your dealing with E, Texas. We need more of these in the future. Good job Chad!   :c :c

Mike, tahnks for the info...I did try to reverse bleed from the caliper, but nothing entered the MC.  I'll try again later...just been relaxing today.

While the reverse bleed/fill method produces good results, it does require a pump that must produce a pressure high enough to push the fluid up to the reservoiur.  Using something like a medical syringe will not generate enough pressure.  In addition to frictional losses and elevation, there is the added resistance of the fluid having to pass through the small bleed/return hole in the reservior base as it enters.  Make sure it is open and clear.  I have found them to be plugged with corrosion deris.  That can easily happen because they are so small.  Generally they are only about a .030" wide hole.
The fact that you can't easily push fluid into the MC is an indication the MC piston seal is fine because it's not allowing any fluid to return passed it.  The only way fluid can enter the MC from below (in a correctly working system) is through the bleed hole return circuit.

The ride there and back was nice and really enjoyed the place and for the most part was pretty exclusive to us.  Glad to meet some new people and have them join our board now and see some friends.  On the way back Ruthy & I stopped in Austinio and bought some stuff, needless to say the people that owned the place were very nice and prices more than fair.  I will always put my hard earned money in the small shops.  Afterwards, we stopped in Madisonville and hung out at there annual Mushroom festival.  was pretty nice with live music and good food.  afterwards, I took a wrong turn and went down 1774 and met up with all the traffic of the Ren Fest  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: .  anyway, didn't get home until about 7pm.

Great ride and good people. Didn't make it around to a couple of areas to meet some of you, hate I missed the opportunity. Those I did see and get to talk to, I'm glad I didn't miss out. It has been great being associated with this group, I'm glad I found it all those years ago. Lots of people have come and gone, some unfortunately forever.
Lots of new riders sporting new rides (not VTX's), as it should be. From BBT 1 in Luckenbach to now, the group has evolved for the better, in my estimation. Some people have left that I really would have liked to see stay, but life happens. We've lost a few to death happening also. We have had more "active" people in years past from what I hear of the turnout at the last BBT, but hey, I wasn't there either. I think a testament of what a good group of people we have lies in the evidence of Xriders switching to other makes and models, and they are still here, in a "X" group. They are still here for the companionship and friendship, and true, some maybe just to pimp their new rides a bit.
1800's (X) are not being made anymore, so the 1300's are now the new flagships for the group. I haven't ridden a 1300 EFI X yet, but I have tested out the Fury, same motor, and while I found the power a little lacking getting off my 1800, (might help if it didn't have to carry so much weight... :( ) I figure another X will be in my future. I only have around 80K on this one, so it will last a good bit longer.

Good to see you all again!

I sure would like it if some way there could be some cheap stick on "MarksALot" name tags used.  Name - Screen Name and Home Town would help us guys from "out of the fold" identify people a little easier.

What was the final count of people and bikes ?  Anyone take the time to find out.  I know in talking to Mr. Thompson he was a little surprised and overwhelmed at the number.

Thanks for putting this together.  Sure wish we could get another organized a little closer to the middle of the state.  Say Lubbock ... LOL

Pics below are of the present left to me Saturday morning when I got up at the motel and went out to the bike.  Lady was nice though, left her name and phone number.

Hard to tell from pic, but was the rear fender damaged?  It looks like she just busted your taillights and license plate...how in the hell did she do that?  Altho, if the fender was undamaged then that is great cause the taillights are not that expensive to replace...paint jobs cost alot!!!!  So glad to hear that she was honest enough to leave her info.

Sorry about you bike but at least somebody fested up and will hopefully make amends! You made a long run from Olton to Crockett and we appreicate your support. We need more people like you to just commit to "I'm going" and make the ride. After all, that's what it's all about anyway and meeting up with folk of common interest. I agree about the Marks-o-lot and name tag agenda because even though I've been around awhile, there's lots of new and even old faces that I can't put names too. Thanks for posting the pic's and hope I can meet up with you next time and shake your hand. Till then  :c :c :c

Fender wasn't damaged.  I don't know how she hit it.  It was parked in an extra wide - extra deep - parking spot.  The rear end of the bike was a good 8-10 feet from the end of the parking stripes.  The parking lot was at least 2 cars across from the rear of one car across to the back of another on opposite side of the lot.  The only way she could have hit it was with the cars parked on both side gone so there is no excuse for her not seeing it...

iamrjtmac, Let me be one of the ones to thank you for making the ride...I'm usually the one that rides the furthest, but in this case your 500 + takes the one way cake! You'll be glad to know there is an event we have frequented close to you in Snyder that has gotten a good draw, the White buffalo. It was the week of the 7,8,9th of Oct this year. I think attendence has waned in past years, but I will try to make it next year, so keep it in mind along with the spring thing and bluebonnet thunder for a get together/camp out. Hated to hear about the tail light, lol. Hope it's the worst you have happen to ya'. Ride safe.

had a great time!

oh, and Warren, your electronic gremlins jumped over to my bike.

it seems that the front headlight ring broke it's headlamp retaining sockets, allowing the headlamp to bounce on the wires in the bucket.  It cut one of them in half, and stripped 2 others.  Making my entire headlight stop functioning.

But I owe Hick a beer, his expert help and hands on, had my light back up and working!

Those little "stalks" that honda used to mount the headlight assembly to the headlight bezel is a joke waiting to become a problem. I poured epoxy and built up the whole area all around by a half inch on mine to give it the support it needed. Good meetin' ya' Isorg.

They made a pearl yellow 1300c in 2008. They also made white 1300's. I am not sure either color was sticky enough to stay on the 1800 due to the torque and horsepower!

I saw a Shadow last year at the Dealer's that was a Yellow.  It was a really stunning color on the bike.  Hung around at the Service Desk area while my bike was being looked at and the guy who owned the bike showed.  I asked him about the paint.  He said it was a custom Pearl Yellow.  It was a bright yellow but had the soft appearance of the Pearl Whites I have seen on the Cadillacs and Escalades.  If I have to repaint or get to that is where I think I will go.  I think it will stay on the 1800.

Did not know about the 1300's ... didn't look at them when I was looking at stock colors.
