Title: Bandera May 4-7
Post by: vtxridersg on March 22, 2015, 08:20:08 AM
Hey folks! The wife and I are gonna try to head down to Bandera area to take in some scenic ridin in May. Anyone know of a nice little cabin/cottage (private/secluded) in the area? Any suggested routes to take. This will be our first time down there so any info for the area would be helpful.

Understood, maybe next year.  The River front motel in Bandera is good, doesn't look like much from the outside but nice inside. It is in Bandera but you will be in walking distance from the nightlife , live music etc plus you are in a good starting point to ride. Robert Wade is in Leakey at river front cabins in Leakey , that sounds remote , look good on Texas X Rider FB  page. Ride into Medina/ Bandera via 16 out of Kerrville . Challenging road so be careful. You will want to ride the Twisted sisters , 337, 336 , 335. Willow city loop outside of Fredericksburg .  The road that goes by Garner State park can't think of the number but goes inti Utopia. Canbe ridden with the Sisters. Checkout the motorcycle museum in Vanderpool, real cool if your a bike nut like me. I'm sure others will chime in. Good Luck, be careful if you haven't been before. Take a camera, you won't believe your in Texas!

One other thing, be where you are staying before dusk, lots of deer out there and tend to be active at dusk and after dark.

Thanks for all the info Gary! I appreciate it! Yea, agreed on looking out for the deer. That could be a bad situation. I'll do some lookin' around and see what I can find. I've heard a lot about the three sisters. Sounds like some great scenery. Thanks again!!

Careful on the sisters... two treacherous cuts/steep downhills I can think of we have had riders down on before.

I hope no one was hurt too bad.  It does pay to have an experienced person leading so that no one gets too hot on the curvy parts without knowing the roads well enough.

Yea Ive read some of the stories about hard curves and steep drops that sneak up on you! The wife is not a fan of me twisting the right hand back anyway so we'll be moving slow through most of it!

Bingo ! Slow in fast out. Don't get back on that throttle unless you are sure of what is in front of you. Don't let anyone pull you or push you faster than you are capable of.

This is one of the reasons that I stuck with this group despite only having a VTX for about 8 months.  I like the attitude.

No sense in whizzing by and not enjoying the scenery...save the speed for the boring straightaways...better safe than sorry...plus keeping Momma happy is a must.

The name of the Cabins are The River Haven Cabins. They are about 3 miles or so south of Leakey on 1120. I would definitely recommend these cabins to anyone going down to that area. They sit on the Frio River and the porches overlook the river. I shared pics in the "Central Texas Ride" section of this forum.

I just shared some more pics of the cabin I stayed in!
