I have been fortunate enough to see both the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds perform .... in My opinion th Blue Angels flew closer to the ground , tighter formations and more crisp manuevers.... one time while at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas (home of the Thunderbirds) I got to witness both teams fly one right after the other it was awesome

Back when they used to fly Sabre's j/k, I think they were F-15's. I saw him in Austin @ Bergstrom AFB.
