Anyone heading out Friday afternoon?  I get off at noon and plan to pull out at 1:30 - 2:00 ish.  Don't know if I will go 290 or I-10.  Austin traffic sucks so will probably go I-10 if I am alone.

Pete

Pete,

We are leaving tomorrow in the AM and was planning on taking 105 to 290 to stay off of I-10. Now you got me worried.  :( I haven't been through there in over a year. Is 290 through Austin still under construction? You going to take I-10 to SA and loop North?

I-10 is kinda what I was thinking.  I haven't been through Austin in over a year but it seems like there is always bad traffic.  They drive like there are politicians in the area.  No one can make a decision and when they do, someone gets screwed.

Also, considering the time I was leaving, I would hit Austin near rush hour.  Ditto for SA but I have a much more warm feeling toward SA than Austin.

Hopefully someone from the Austin area can post something that will help us all out.

Wouldn't it be quicker for you to take I-10 through Houston, to Columbus, then hit Hwy71 through the south of Austin? That takes you directly to Johnson City.

I know you meant well, but the last time I tried going through Houston on I-10, I became waaayyyyyy to familiar with my friction zone. I would rather drive 100 miles out of my way than sit in that traffic. And no, I DON'T have the balls to split lanes.  :-\

Jimmy,

I'm leaving Friday morning if you want to meet up. I'm taking off from Richmond.

Ron

What time are you looking to leave at?

I haven't set a firm time - probably after traffic dies down, but I'm flexible if you've got a plan in mind.

It looks like we'll be leaving at the butt crack.  Before traffic gets going.
