There is an event for this weekend Saturday March 3rd, several ride groups from N Houston (Conroe) W Houston (Katy) E Houston (Baytown) and SW Houston (59 & Bellaire/Fondren)
Texas Independence
Victory Ride!
On March 2, 1836, Texas severed ties with Mexico and became a free and independent republic. It was a short-lived country: less than 10 years later Texas joined the Union. As any Texan will tell you, that streak of independence still runs strong and deep through our largest state (nothing else counts). Now THAT’S something to celebrate wherever you find it.
This could be one of the top Victory rides we will make this year with plans in to join up with additional Victory groups en route and at our final destination. This ride will take us up to Washington on the Brazos (just outside of Navasota) to enjoy the festivities sponsored by the Texas Parks Department.
Park entry is free and numerous re-enactments portraying our states journey to independence will be performed.
Send me a message for further details.

If It ain't in the Continental U.S. It Doesn't count. without googling does any one know how much bigger that place you consider a state thats connected to CANADA is than TEXAS (allegedly) furthermore anyone know the Capitol, song bird/animal or anything about that place.
ONLY TEXAS COUNTS... less you're headed to Sturgis or Daytona ... or any other major rally.

Texas 267,338.00 sq. miles 171,095,635.61 acres
Alaska 586,412.00 sq. miles 375,302,178.79 acres
proving what I learned way back in the day. If you were to cut Alaska into two equal pieces, Texas would be the 3rd largest state!!

I'm fifth generation also, 1837 to now. No Yankee blood ever in my family and it's carried on to my daughter who married a 4th.
I started a lengthy little message back but then realized this is a family board so I erased all and started again. All I can say is someday me and you will meet and I'll gladly shake your hand, pop a top and go from there.

Sadly, in this day and age, all I could find was a State Flag (1845), and a Mexican flag! ??? ??? ???
I know; you'd think at least someone would feel like I do, and yearn for the independence again. Who know, perhaps we can all rally again at the Alamo?
