Title: 10/27 CenTex Ride?
Post by: jmdaniel on October 25, 2007, 06:37:38 AM
Anyone up for one? Or will you all be resting your weary bones for Galveston? The Feejer needs a few miles on it...

I'll be going to Hutto to eat food & pie @ 11:00 or so come Saturday.  This is a monthly Pie Run thing (any and all bikes are welcome Hint! Hint!). I got hooked on it a while back and it is sponsored by the Two Wheeled Texans (TWT).

My route up will be San Marcos, 21 to Bastrop, 95 to FM 1660 just South of Taylor & up to Hutto.  This route is a little over 100 miles from my house and i will be allowing myself 2.5 hrs to get there.  I haven't decided on my return home route just yet.  All are welcome to join me.

Here is the Site for Debbies pies http://www.texancafe.net/.

Here is a link to the Pie Run thread on the TWT board.  Go to the 1st post in the thread for more info.

Maybe we could ride up together and for those of you who have your hearts set on BBQ, I hear Taylor has some of the best BBQ in Texas. O0  Taylor is located 7 miles East of Hutto.

That sounds like a plan worth checking out... I have been told many times that Louie Mueller BBQ in Taylor is one of the best! Where can we meet up? Anyone else?

Jerry,

Could you do that ride backwards? (not riding backwards, but you know what I mean...). I'd like to ride more of the first 15 legs on your plan, which would be after Hutto/Taylor stop if you turned it around. The Austin/Temple-Belton folks could meet up with you at 29 and 183, (BBQ shack on SE corner), head over to Hutto/Taylor, then ride south with ya as far as we wanted to before breaking it off, (I'm thinking catching 12 somewhere between #4 and #5 on your map, and heading North through Dripping Springs), and heading home.

Just a suggestion...

Jeff

RD, do you want to meet at 281 and Marshall Rd at the Valero station?  Does 7 or 7:15 sound about right to meet Jerry at 8?  You pick the time and place as you see fit.  You can call me on my cell at 210.602.5496.

Sounds good to me Dan. Let's wait and see where jerry wants to sart from, before we set up a time. If we meet Jerry on 281, it'll only take us 30 min. But, since Jeff can only make left turns, and if Jerry changes the route, we'll need to meet him at the gas station we met at before.

OK, here you go Jeff.

Start at 281 & 306, ksu at 8:15
Arrive at 281 & 1431 by 9:15
Arrive at Bertram by 10:30
Arrive at 29 & 183 by 10:45
Arrive at Hutto by 11:30  (130 miles from Start)

These are MicroSoft Street & Trips times with no scheduled stops.  Three hours and fifteen minutes seems a long time to run 130 miles.  I am thinking we will make better time.

So as not to confuse, I will delete the post with my 1st map.

For you guys going to the BBQ joints, there are several great ones, in Taylor, someone needs to organize that piece of this ride.  We can re-group after lunch for the ride home.

This is gonna be fun!

Two things:

1. What's the name of that gas station on 306 where we met Dan?
2. What time do you want Dan and I to be there?

Jerry, I think RD is offering you a heck of a deal.  Get him to include a pie to go; I think you still have some bargaining room.

Good morning!  I turned in a little after 9 last night.  I have been trying to catch up on sleep all this week.  I think I'm finally getting there.  I don't think I got 10 hours total of good sleep in the 5 days on the ARK run.  Also, trying to shake a cold I picked up some where along the way.

Looks like yesterday's weather prediction was wrong - in our favor.  It is only 48 degrees out on the back porch.  Won't need the heated vest after all. :)

Jerry

ps...Jeff I'm not sure we will be 30 minutes ahead of schedule. The 10 miles run on the Cow Creek Rd is mostly 20 mph as I recall. O0

Let's meet at that BBQ place, SE corner of 183 and 29, anywhere between 10:15 and 10:45, as per Jerry's post.

For those interested in BBQ, instead of pie, Louie Mueller's in Taylor is 8.45 miles East on 79.  I've never been there, but heard it's great! O0

Dan, you made good time.  Hope the baby girel is good and glad to see you.

I am home safe as well.  Thanks guys for making this such a special day for me.  It means a lot to me to get to ride with y'all.

We rolled into Hutto as a group of 7 VTXer's.  Three guys went to Taylor to scout out their BBQ.  Guys, how was the BBQ?   The other four of us had lunch and pie with another VTXer from New Braunfels.  While we were there we visited with a couple more VTXer's from the Belton/Temple area who rode up for pie.  So we are talking about 10 VTXer's getting together today for good times.

I had one of the best cheeseburgers ever, indescribably delicious french fried sweet potatoes (my 1st time ever), and yummy strawberry cheesecake pie.

Wish more of you guys and gals could have made it out here today.  It was fun.  Maybe next time.

Great ride today Guy's!! 345 miles total, and my butt still feels good. At least that's what Suzanne said. :o Mueller's was good, and the prices great. 1/2 lb. lean brisket for $5 and a 6" link for $2.
Would've like to have had some of the pie, but no breakfast and I needed the protien. Cow Creek was a little rough. Looks like the county has been working on the low water crossings. If you plan on going out that way, take your time and prepare yourself for some gravel.

Thanks Jerry. Good to see Dan, Tommy, Wade, & Lex. You guys are too busy! Always fun to ride with Jeremy and "Francis". ;D Thanks for stopping by BigA. Sorry I missed your twin.

Yep, just climbed out of the spa..., which means this old man will be sawing logs in about 3 minutes!  :o

The BBQ at Mueller's was okay, wouldn't take it over Cooper's, but the company made it worthwhile. Great seeing all you guys again today, even RD, who attempted a little Feejer tipping, to go with his consumate cow tipping skills!  ;D Thank goodness we were both okay. See all of you again soon!  O0

Great ride today.  Missed the meet up at 306 and 281 because of a WIDE LOAD poking its way down 306 from New Braunfels.  Looked like it was a base for a windmill generator.  This thing was at least 70 feet long and 14 feet in diameter.  No way could I get around it, so I ended up being about 10 minutes late at the meeting up point. There was still the faint smell of burned rubber in the air when I got there.  Ended up doing my own solo RAT (ride around Texas)  but I knew that there would be good pie and good folks at 11:00 AM in Hutto.  What a beautiful morning it was for ride.  My honey do list was gianormous so I had to split right after lunch.  Tom and I took I-35 South together till he split off at the 183 to head west.  I continued straight down I-35 to New Braunfels.

Go here for some pics of the Pie Run http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?p=314939#post314939

Look close and you will see the VTXer's.

I am determined to pull some of you VTXer's into this Pie Run thing.  Maybe it just my desire to keep pulling the family together. ;)  I know there are some of you who would really enjoy planning for this run ever month or so, once you get going with it.

On another note, Rick M if you read this, I tried your method of mounting the KLR this morning when I made my daily trip to the cabin.  Well every thing was going fine until after about the third try when on a dismount the weight of the bike shifted causing the bike to go over on its right side.  I tried without success to upright it.  I think I pulled a muscle in my back cause it it's sure sore.  The Corbin seat doesn't allow for any leverage from using one's butt.  The seat is too low and smooth to the extent that your butt doesn't have anything to push against to assist in lifting the bike.  I ended up using my tractor with an 8' boom which brought it right up.  Bottom line is that for me your method will work fine for mounting, but I will still need to dismount on the right side of the bike the way I have been or else practice when there buddies around to help me lift the bike if it should fall over with me.
