As you may or may not know, Construction on the Causeway is heavy
when entering and leaving Galveston. The old bridges have been demolished and one of two new bridges have been built. When complete there will be two six lane bridges, one entering Galveston and the other leaving Galveston via Hwy 45. As I stated the one new bridge is being used as two way traffic.
The roads leading up to the new causway are sometimes re-routed un annouced to allow for the new construction. This results in reduced speed limits, sharp curves, and a County Sheriff with radar. Be prepared to slow down once you cross over the Santa Fe RR bridge just prior to the Causway.
Many accidents have occured there lately, the most recent 2 day's ago with fatalities.
Fact:
Concrete wall's were placed on the side of the new bridges, these walls were constructed to simulate waves, People are complaining that if you stare at these walls you can become dizzy and or disoriented, some have complained
of symptoms simular to being sea sick.
I personally have not had any ill effects while traveling over the bridge.
But I feel more comfortable in the middle lane.
