The 8/16 Vanderpool ride was discussed tonight at the 7/30 San Antonio M/G and the final plans were made. I suggested a different route than I originally planned that will be much more enjoyable and scenic which everyone seemed to agree with.
The meeting up and starting point will be at the Citgo station at Camp Bullis Road and IH 10 West. 0830 meet up and KSU at 0900. Just take IH 10 West out past Loop 1604 and take the Camp Bullis Exit (Exit 554). Stay on the access road until you come to the red light and the Citgo is on the right. Plenty of room to park with gas and refreshments before we leave if needed.
Rest stops/breaks are planned for at least every 50 miles or so to make sure everyone’s needs are met. More if the need arises.
The ride will end at Willie's Hamburgers on Hwy 281 S between Thousand Oaks and Bitters for more eatin, smokin, jokin, and story telling. You can click on the link below for the route and directions.
Feel free to ask any question. In order to get a ball park number of folks planning on going please post it on this thread and also indicate if you will be alone or 2-up.

Joe and I did the pre-ride today for the 8-16 Vanderpool ride and it is going to be a great ride. Everyone will love it. Some great scenery. There will be two small changes to the route. We will be going through Medina rather than Tarpley due to road construction. Also the ride will end at Willie's Grill on Hwy 281 S between Thousand Oaks and Bitters rather than at Chesters on IH-10W. There are about a half dozen reasons why Willie's Grill will be a better place to end the ride compared to Chesters. This is the same place we will be having the
8-13 M/G. Pass the word, see ya there, bring another rider.

Looks like we are going to have to start monitoring the weather. Hopefully the rain will hold off until late in the day Saturday.
-
As of this evening (Friday) the trip is still a go. The forecast for tomorrow is for isolated showers but right now they say not until later in the day and more to the East of us. It looks OK right now but I will get up early in the morning and start watching the weather and if it looks like we will more than likely run in to bad weather the ride will be postponed. So by no later than 07:45 in the morning after viewing all the weather info I can find I will make a final decision and post a GO or NO GO.

On the southside, the sun is rising..don't mistake this for the south is rising...I'm going, see you guys there!!

The Vanderpool ride was a great success. I think a few were scared off due to possible bad weather and maybe a few more because of the tax free weekend but we had a good turnout and a great ride. Those of you who have ridden in the Ingram/Hunt area and on the 3's know that the scenery is awesome. If you have never been in the area you will say it's hard to believe you are only a couple hours from San Antonio. A big thanks to everyone for making my first time as lead rider so easy. Your cooperation, safety concious attitude, and courtesy was greatly appreciated. Also a big welcome to the new riders who showed up.
Go to the "Photos of Vanderpool Ride" thread for some great pics.
