Stebel Horn; Mounting Pictures
« on: December 26, 2007, 09:23:03 AM »

I just ordered the Stebel Air Horn from HDL and I probably will order the mount from Pepsx.  If you have the Stebel mounted on your X, I would like to see some pics of options to mount.  Thanks.

I haven't seen them, but I think there were some mounting photographs posted on VTXOA. Try a search there.

This is a great thread that shows pics of like 3 or 4 different places to mount. Since I've desmogged, I think I'll use the under the tank method.

Thanks Morgan, that was a lot of help.  I haven't desomogged and may not anytime soon if ever, so the Pepsx bracket may be the way to go for me.

Desmog was a BREEZE.  I actually kinda had fun doing it.  Everything I've read really seems to lead me to believe that under the tank is a far better place for the horn's long life.  Just something to think about.

Yes, that is what I have read that the under the tank is better, but Dan at Pepsx is confident with the mounting with his bracket.  I just got an email from him linking to his webiste to show how his bracket works.  What I was reading on the VTXOA thread, indicates the stock airbox has to be replaced for the under tank to work, did you have to do that also?

I placed my holiday order with HDL, started to include the block off plates in case I ever decide to do the desmog.  Is there anywhere else to get the block off plates?

I've got an '06 1300S with the PepsX bracket mounted just in front of the rear tire. After drilling and mounting it, I realized how easily I could have made the bracket myself. Before spending the money and waiting for shipment (and I'm not complaining - it was well made and came within ten days of my order) you might consider a DIY bracket.

Be sure and read up on the installation (e.g., http://www.vtxoa.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=219187&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=) as there are many options - you'll want to choose before you start drilling, cutting, clamping... The best is wiring is via pigtails to your existing (OEM) horn and button (see linked instrcutions below).

Here are links to a couple of illustrated (w/pics) pdf files that you may also find very helpful. One is an installation guide from the VTXOA and VTXCafe (compilation) www.therays.net/aspencade/StebelInstallation.pdf - and the second file is the Stebel OEM installation sheet (not as helpful, but you may need it) www.therays.net/aspencade/stebelhorn.pdf.

Hope that this helps!

PepsX actually is giving me a bracket for free...  He hit me up on the Holiday give-away.  I'll probably figure a way to use it under the tank.  I don't have the stock air-box anymore either, I have a P4.

Thanks man, appreciate the offer, but I already ordered one from Dan at Pepsx, they are pretty cheap.  Is yours the one he makes?  My bike is the 1300, I think his fits either.
