I can't recall the name of the place, but a friend has told me about a BBQ joint in Luluing, or just north of there (it's been awhile) that's supposed to be one of the best in Texas. The group he rides with goes there. I'll call him today.

Probably thinking of either Black's BBQ, Kreuz BBQ, or Smitty's Market.  All 3 of those places are in Lockhart, which is about 15 miles north of Luling.  All 3 places have also been featured on the Travel Channel as being some of the best BBQ in the country.

I have seen articles on joints in Luling, Lockhart and Bastrop areas.  That whole area is apparently the BBQ center of the universe.  Hogs have a tough time in that area!!!

Okay, I spoke to Greg and he recommended (in order, best first):

1.  Kreus' Market in Lockhart
2.  Luling City Market in Luling
3.  Black's in Lockhart.

3.  Black's in Lockhart.

I wouldn't want to single it out to any of those three locations as that's not very centralized for this meet.  that puts us Houston riders farther than Austin & San Antonio.  Just trying to keep things sort of close so that more people would be encouraged to go.  I'm not exactly going for the food, but to meet other people and have a good time.  Don't get me wrong, finding a good place to eat is a good thing, but i don't want this to deviate from the original intentions.

All those places are just 45 mins at the most from San Marcos. No more than a hour from SA. Its a 3 hour ride for the houston gang and thats twisting the throttle pretty tight !! We better head more toward them to get a good showing from them ????

Hallettsville seems to be a good middle ground... well... according to the map at least...

Austin to Hallettsville 96.5m
Houston to Hallettsville 107m
San Antonio to Hallettsville 103m

and seems big enough have at least 2 BBQ joints.... and seems that there is a bar on the outskits of town, that gets a 4/5 stars from austin city search Lazy-j-bar

now having never been there... no idea if any are good or not :D

OK.  I guess since I'm the culprit that started this off in the first place by wanting to have a combined M/G and MATAP with the idea to include our friends in Houston, I can make a command decision.  Been keeping notes on all the replies and I think everyone will be happy.  I like the fact that Hallettsville provides the opportunity to take either I-10 or a secondary road and it is well centered between the three cities we can have it there.  Most everyone prefers Saturday so it will be on Saturday at 12 noon.  There aren't to many things going on over the next few weeks to cause a conflict so lets do it on 24 Jan. Rain Date 31 Jan.  As far as where we meet and have lunch that can be decided by someone familiar with Hallettsville now that we know thats where it's going to be.

Now we got something to work with.  If there must be a change for some reason thats cool too.  We can do that if needed. I was a little worried about the distance for our Houston friends but I think this will work.

Lets make it a challenge to see who all can bring along a non-member rider.

Hallettsville seems to be a pretty central location, see at the bar >:D

I think the one in Nacogdoches was even bigger than those two...I know for sure we had close to 60 or 70 bikes there...and there were many that were 2-up!

Hallettsville it is.  Seems like a really good spot for all.  Thanks Isorg for the suggestion.  GregC I'll go ahead a start a new thread with dates you chose to see who all can attend and with bringing a non-member challenge once someone suggest a place for us to meet, greet, & EAT! O0

OKay matap.  I think we are on the road now.  I think the suggestions could have gone on for weeks so I hope everyone is Okay with my decisions.   I think it will work pretty good for everyone.  Soon as we pick a meeting spot there in Hallettsville we'll be good to go.
