What kind of pipes do I have?
« on: September 21, 2010, 08:38:25 AM »

So I'm having a small issue with my pipes.  They have this slight whistle/rattle while I'm accelerating.  Any Ideas?  And I have no irea what kind of pipes I have.  Usually it says the name but mine don't.  I was hoping if I knew that I could figure out what replacement parts were needed.
Thanks All :notworthy:

I put a set on my 1300 and didn't put new gaskets on and had a noise like that. new gaskets solved it. Your problem may be something entirely different. Good luck!

Based on your avatar pic, they could be Cobra Speedster Shorts or HK American Classic Straights. Like Headguess said, check your exhaust gaskets and get new ones if need be. I bought my bike with aftermarket pipes and the guy who put them on didn't replace the gaskets. You can never count on the guy before you to know what he's doing.

Also, for the rattling (not sure if your whistle/rattle is two separate things), check all your mounting points and heat shield brackets to make sure they're tight.

The Speedos rattle on most X's and with a windshield you can get some funny noises also.

Yeah I need to check my nuts and bolts.  And as soon as I figure out how to work this site I'll show you better pics.[/img]

They look like HARD CHROME pipes, "American Classic Straights"...      Well that is my guess!

Definitely Hard Krome...either Strippers or Straights.  Check to make sure your baffles (if you have them) are still in there and tight.  The bolt that holds them in is on the backside of the pipe toward each end where the endcap's bolt is.

Yeah Hard Krome was my guess too.  Checked all the hardware and it all seems tight.  Will check the baffles tomorrow.  and the Gasket.  Thanks All
