'03 VTX 1800R Brake Pads
« on: October 26, 2008, 10:15:00 PM »

Ok, I went cheap with some Ferodo organic and have only put the rear set on.  These pieces of crap won't even do a good job of slowing the bike, let alone stopping it!  I can stand on the pedal and not lock the rear tire!!

From your experience, what is the best brake for the buck and where available??  Been looking at EBC HH sintered, anyone using those?
I just need someone to tell me "Yes, I use XXX pads and they work great!"

.....and I did break the new pads in properly, they are not glazed or burned and rotors are great.

Thanks.....

Roland, I have EBCs on the rear and it's all good. Still have the originals on front.

Thanks, Hip and Hooter.   I am going to assume you are talking about the HH sintered pads from EBC (they have others).   Unless, I hear differently, that is what I will go with.   My fronts are still about 50%, well above the notch.  I appreciate your feedback!!  O0

Mine were goven to me slightly used, sans packaging. All I know is they're EBC; I have no idea which composition.

Hipshot,
I found the EBC REAR BRAKE PADS FA261/2HH on eBay for $26.99 delivered.........don't think I could beat that anywhere except, maybe, your source.   One of the EBC websites I looked at cautioned against putting the 2HH on the rear only so as not to cause "brake imbalance???"  WTF???   The front has dual discs, the rear a single...how would this cause an imbalance??  You always get more braking effect front the front!!   I think they must have meant not to use the 2HH on one side of dual discs......that would make more sense.
Whatever, I'll be putting the EBC's on the rear only for now........the front will change out when they are wore out.

Will be looking forward to the info given by you!! If when Iam watch channel 7 and I hear something about a guy on a VTX driving his bike into a house on a corner because his brakes didn't work, I will guess they weren't good brake pads!!  ;D ;D Good luck!!!  ;D ;D

REPORT:

OK.....I put the EBC 2HH copper sintered in the rear caliper this afternoon (very easy job) and took her out for a run.   Didn't want to 'slam' the brakes right away, so, took a number of gradual stops and cooled in between.  After a while, I put the hammer down on the rear brake and, wow, what a difference!   This baby has its' stopping power back again.

Word of advice from experience, the Ferodo organic pads may be just fine in some applications, however, one of those applications is NOT a fully loaded 1800 VTX!!!

BTW, I have three sets of Ferodo brake pads (one pair slightly used) for a Honda 1800 VTX that I will sell cheap...... ::)

Way to go, Hipshot.   Snake will get so excited reading that, he'll probably have an 'organism!'  Hope it don't happen while he is riding, that would be worse than an oil slick!   :o
