Rear tire for 07 VTX 1300R
« on: April 30, 2011, 08:25:43 PM »

I am going to be in the market for a new rear tire and wanted to get an idea what everyone else is partial too.  I am replacing the stock tire with about 9,000 miles on it and would like to get something with a little more mileage than that if possible.

Stay safe and ride safe as well..

I have run both Avon and Metzler.  For me, they are close to the same as far as handling and mileage.  I have gotten between 8000 and 9000 on both.

depends on the riding you do, If you carve the twisties and peg scrap, i would go metzlers, If you do mostly touring elite 3's IMO .Mets are classified as a cruiser tire and the E 3s as a touring tire. Loved the way mets handled but didn't last for me. course you could go CT . Now you wanna talk oil? let the games begin!  :t  :c  LOL

Avon venom x's for me. I get about 13-14K out of them! (Of course, I had cord showing once, LOL :-[) Great stick, wet or dry roads.

current tire is a metzler me880 (going to get about 11-12k from it.)
Previous tire was an avon, got about 11k out of that one (would have gotten 1k more, but a big trip forced me to replace.)

before that was a brigstone something, only got 7k (this tire was great in the dirt, but sucked everywhere else (yes i said dirt))
before that.... cant recall... 8-10k ish i think
originial dunlop...6k.... (i didn't know about keeping it at 40psi)

Avon or Metzler, tough call.... but i am going to put another me880 on the rear.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the responses.  I have been looking at the Metzler 880's so may go that route.

Thanks again and Ride Safe..

I'm going Friday to have Metz 880 put on the bike. I had good luck with my other set. Good Luck and welcome.
