joe one of your brake light switches is stuck on, pull your brake lever and see if you hear a click, oif not it may be that one, if it clicks off and on check your foot brake, may have gotten stuck or something hit it making it stay on. ;)

I agree, the hand brake lever switch makes a nice clicking sound.  It's a small black microswitch under the lever housing.  The rear brake switch is along the frame, I don't think it makes the click sound.  The rear is adjustable, and it is the most likely culprit.  If it is the problem, it is a free fix & only takes a minute.

There is not an uncommon problem,
It happened to me, there is an adjuster nut just behind the brake pedal.

I'm not sure on the retro but on the c model the rear brake adjuster is between the right-side downtube and that bracket with the two allen bolts that you were talking about. Look at where the rear brake line cuts across the open space from the downtube going to the master cylinder. There is a wire harness there running along side the brake line. It goes directly to the switch and you can reach the adjuster with your finger. The adjuster is a knurled disk that you would rotate away from you to lengthen the time it takes for the pedal to activate the light.
