The timing will be great, the scenery better, the company the best.
One mountaintop road is 52 miles of twisty, up and down fun. Only a few vehicles, mountaintop outlook vista spots, picnic areas... Talihina OK. to Mena AR.
Twenty one of us so far...be number 22! And this is only one of the roads we'll ride!

And that is the tip of the iceberg on the roads and scenery to ride, get ready for the most colorful ride you can make.

We got a packet from the AR tourism board will all of the good bike rides listed out. We are in the process of printing off maps and directions that we can hand out for everyone to have a copy of. That should give us a lot of options on rides with information about food and fuel along the routes.

Jim's feeling better
Really looking forward to it :bikerider:

I am sure that this is duplication but there is a website that has some great rides out of Eureka Springs, most of them can be done from anywhere as they are several hundred miles long.
http://www.eurekaspringsmotorcyclerides.com/ride-maps/ (http://www.eurekaspringsmotorcyclerides.com/ride-maps/)
I have already asked the Boss for time off.....and if she lets me I will put in for vacation at work...LOL. I just got back from there and wanted to go back when it wasn't as hot. This trip is exactly what I wanted to do. Also, for those who met my friend David at the M&G, I invited him as well.
Crossing Fingers!!

Looking forward to seeing your mapped rides. The only one that we accomplished last time was the Pig Trail and we stopped by the Beaver Dam for a few pics. I saw tons of roads that we didn't take. Frankly, was afraid some of them would lead to trouble!!
-
Only trouble is when you start hearing the banjos and harmonicas Rocket ;D Otherwise just watch out for fords! :D

Watch out for them 18-wheelers and cars on the curves too. More than a few times making a corner had to re-adjust because someone was using both lanes. On the Double-U turn the 18-Wheelers had the entire lanes blocked and there were three in a row stacked up...going uphill. I would hate to be a truck driver on that road....serious. Fun to watch though.

Avg. Mean Temp: 60°F
Average Precipitation: 6.00 in.
Record High: 94°F (1956)
Record Low: 20°F (1993)
Goodness, what to pack? Definitely need some good rain gear folks!! We rode for over 100 miles in it on our way up there in July. Good thing is, the roads don't get slick because they are constantly getting washed off.
-
Dont know if he still lives there or not, but where 259 T's in to the wilhamena parkway, a prairie dog has his home about four feet up the mountain side. Fun to watch him as every vehicle coming up 259 is pointing right at him. You'd think He'd relocate or something.

For those so inclined, there is a big casino less than 90 miles from mena, brand new (2 yrs old) and easy to get to. Choctaw, outside of FT Smith, just over the border in OK. Huge . Not condoning gambling ;) (anyone up for a game of poker?) in any form, but we might get a game up at the limetree. Anyone ever play Tonk before? ;D

Does the Casino have a hotel and why are we not booking there?
-
You can book there, no prob. weekly nights $90, weekend $129. 90 miles away from where we were going to base our rides out of, plenty of time to adjust, I guess. Mena just seemed like more of a riding hub, kinda' a gateway to lots of destinations...pig trail, ozarks, Talimena DR, Petit Jean mt, Rich mt...etc, But any road in that area of Arkansas is usually great. If casinoing is your thing, theres one just north of you just over the OK line too. I believe it is close to Durant. One in Broken Bow and Idabel also, but they are small casinos, one in a old Walmart store I believe. Mena is just 11 miles from the CMA national Headquarters, who has thousands of bikes coming in the week after we will be there. That is in Hatfield AR. Where I live there are streams of bikes all that next week passing back and forth for their OCT changing of the colors Rally. I'm over 100 miles away, and not on hwy 59 that goes straight north to there, the best shot up to there from the south.

My response was more tongue and cheek than a real request. I am here to ride!! That being said, one of these days I am going to plan to ride and stay in Eureka Springs, that place is beautiful, has bars and rooms with 2 Queen beds can be had for sub $50/night. Only problem, it's another 185 miles past Mena and from Houston that is a long 185 miles. I can make the ride but it's about 10+ hours, not good for everyone. Coming back last time we had to stop 130 miles short of home (Nacadoches) because one of our riders couldn't go any more. Good thing was, the hotel had a pool and the gas station across the street had beer. Win Win.
