Only if you do it with a spring in your step.... ;)
I feel Spring Thing has become part of us, or at least afew, just as the BBT, not as big maybe but some may make this and it would be nice to have a direct connection to see the scoop and keep track. just my $.02

Typical elected offical, just can't seem to make a stance on anything unless there's money involved.
ps. Did you get the quart of Turkey 101 I sent for Christmas your Honor?
12 - 15 = 4 day event O0
12 - 15 = 4 day event O0
I don't have enough liver left for a 4 day event!! :'(
Day 4 is leave by noon day. Just don't start!!! Randy will have to answer about registrasion. Camper sites are limited. Tint sites are not.there is a limit of 80 people at that site..... It will be fun again!!!!
Anyone who can still see it has it cached. If you emptied your temp files it would go away. The server is physically gone, so the files are no longer online.
Hooter didn't have one. Snake and Rex, you need to change yours if you want one. It will go away once everyone's cache pushes the picture out. The link you guys are using is no longer available. I can't explain it any clearer. :-*
Hooter, I picked one for you. If you want your own, you need to pick from existing pictures we have on our server, upload your own onto our server, or link to a file hosting service like photobucket. Do not link to some random persons website. Your signature is working fine, so you've linked to photobucket before.
When you upload your own, the site will resize the picture for you to a smaller format.
[quote Thanks for your help Brock. It was all me. Just one of my usual head inversions. ::)
Everclear and beads rock too.... ;D >:D
I can't makr the trip either. I have had the honor to work this weekend bestoded upon me. Having my hours cut to 3 days a week, the extra time couldn't be turned down. sorry
:cuss: :cuss:
Isn't it really hot/humid here in August? :couch:
Sorry to deliver this bad (some may say good) news but we have decided to postpone Spring Thing. Weather is not conducive to motorcycles or campers. The cold front has moved in the highs are in the 40's with rain every day. Sat seems to be a little better, 40% chance of rain and high of 56.If i recall correctly, the first spring thing still went on under very similar circumstances. key words there is "still went on". As I can see though, this has apparently become a "money thing" for the X riders. Everyone planning on attending has known about the weather since this past weekend and now, less than 24 hours before heading out, you're going to post-pone it. Glad to see everyone got a chance to express their opinion on the matter!
In reading recent posts and speaking with folks, the attendance is starting to dwindle down. The event cost $450 and is split among those that attend. Rather than risk losing the funds we have decided to postpone event. The new dates are Aug 13 - 16th, hope you all understand.

BTW, I had originally scheduled days off from work for this (doesn't matter now) and some others may have to.
One other question, who's going to reimburse me for the $150 worth of groceries we bought for this and the $50 in gas for going to llano and picking up the fifth wheel? Think maybe someone can shoot me a check from the X rider fund, Oh wait a minute, guess that falls in the "risk of losing funds" comment posted above.
One more thing and this is the last, It was also nice that we all got a chance to voice our ideas of the new dates as well.

so how much ridin' you doin' while your there? :ohwow:

It took $450 to reserve the ability for everyone TO show up. This is not "a money making scheme" as some of you appear to be accusing. That money was originally paid out of Randy's pocket. No different than me paying out of my pocket to keep this site running. The weekends left to keep the reservations and money paid down were limited. You need to take a step back and relax to take a look at the big picture.
This decision was decided at the last minute by a couple of members of the BOD and guess who else...KENNY. It was not voted on as I do not see there was time to do so. I received a call saying it was rescheduled and agreed with the decision based on what the circumstances were.
KENNY, agreed to have the BOD absorb the initial cost of the rally. How many of you would have ponied up $450 of your own money only HOPING it would be reimbursed by those who show up? Especially, on a cold and wet weekend? Those of you with RV's need to think about the campers with tents.
I had no dog in the original hunt, but I can tell you that I support the decision and am EMBARRASED at some of our long standing members atitudes towards this.
If some of you want to pay the $450 yourself and continue camping this weekend, by all means you're more than welcome too. Nobody has said that many of you can't continue your normally scheduled plans.
Beeing of few words and fewer spelled correctly here goes..
Take it e-z on the snops and we will see you in Texas!!! O0 O0 O0Beeing of few words and fewer spelled correctly here goes..
Thanks for the laugh, Kenny!
Even tho I have been riding for several years, I have never been involved with a large group of riders getting together and going to an event such as Spring Thing or BBT. I'm sure I am in for the shock of my life, lol. So help me understand what the structure is. Someone had to put a $450 deposit down to reserve a certain number of camping/RV spots together on a certain date? Then the riders coming in have to also pay a per night fee? Does the deposit also reserve like a common gathering pavilion type of facility? The $450 just seems excessive to me, but like I said I am not familiar with the set up of this type of get together.
I'm assuming that BBT is handled the same way...we had to pay $35/person registration which goes towards the deposit I assume and then we have to also pay a per night camping/RV fee. If I am wrong let me know.
Mark would like to seend the seed money for next year?? Come up in August and see what we get for the $450.00.. Until this year I fronted the money (and did not lose money because some put in MORE THAN THEIR SHARE). I don't know who, money was NEVER counted until after the event.. If you read the post above last year more money tham was needed was in the pot(can)! This was the seed money for this year. This year we hopped to make seed money for next year... When I was asked what I thought, with the forcast and the number that had already backed out, and it was nolonger MY money, I think the proper decission was made!! This will be the 4th year in a central area of the state and we hope it will pay for its self for a long time to come.. The group not an indivual is at risk of losing the cash!!Even tho I have been riding for several years, I have never been involved with a large group of riders getting together and going to an event such as Spring Thing or BBT. I wasn't able to make this weekends ride with ya'll but I've been on many large group rides over the last three years as a member of the CaliforniaVTXriders, so I can only speak from that perspective...
There were 5 or 6 large weekend rides every year, at the same time and same place. These were rides that many members looked forward to every year (including myself) and would set their calendars around. The last one I participated in before I moved here was the Big Bear Wounded Warrior ride in May 2008. Well guess what... it SNOWED that weekend! For those that don't know, Big Bear is a resort community in the mountains near Los Angles. Big Bear city is at about the 8,000 ft level. We had a rider get caught in the snow on the ride up, forcing him and his wife to make an unscheduled overnight stop to wait out the weather. Well, in the end everyone made it up... some rode, some caged it and we had a BLAST. My point is... big weekend rides were never postponed or canceled for any reason. I guess it was an unwritten "rule" although the word "rule" was a dirty word... the Calvtxer's don't like rules. ;)
Sounds to me like many people were looking forward to this and would have participated no matter what the weather was like. Also sounds like their feelings were hurt when they weren't consulted before the decision was made to cancel, I mean postpone this major yearly event. Can't say I blame them.
We're all adults here and capable of deciding what to do and what not to do. Worrying about someone riding (or camping) in the rain and getting sick isn't the responsibility of the organizers. It's up to the individual. We're all adults and can make our own decisions.
In my humble opinion this large, preplanned get-together should not have been canceled. Those that didn't want to attend because of the weather, would have stayed home. Those that did, would have been there.
Now there's the possibility that people are going to be skeptical about signing up for future large group rides... Will it be canceled, will it not. Hmmmmmm
IMHO the BOD should make a ruling about NOT canceling large weekend rides in the future. It's just not cool!
Just a newbies 2 cents. ;)
:couch:
As I read it, the decision to cancel was made BEFORE anyone called Kenny.
Yeah and apparently you never even came close to getting the point. Or was it ignored?
Remember, the way you take it by reading it may have not been the tone in the voice that wrote it.
I am sad!!!!
It was me. It had to be me. It was in my name. But it was the groups money. So please direct all gripes my direction. I am a big boy and can handle it. All I can say is that it was thought to be the best decision for the future of the Spring Thing. We did not want to put the weight of the entire expense on just a few that would show up. Sorry.
SO, SPRING THANG IS CANCELLED? :cuss: LOL! Not trying to :pot: just lighten the mood!
Cheers to everyone; have a coke and a smile or your favorite beverage :c of choice.
Looks like everyone should have nice weather for a Sunday ride. So get out & take a deep breath and "CRANK THAT THROTTLE"!
Criminy, Trent, didn't you see the duckies and bunnies? I think you need more cowbell!!!
Now Jeff I don't normally get on a soap box, but that statement rubbed me the wrong way. thats the only reason for my post. Show other options.
Also Jeff where the hell have you been I have not seen you since you came to the Rot thing last year.
Maybe someone can give me a history lesson here...I will be doing my best to be there. I would look foward to meeting you.
What is the role of the BOD ("Board of Directors" I'm assuming) and why was it formed?
Is this a "Motorcycle Club" or a loosely organized "Riding group"?
Is there a membership fee or any other requirments to be a "member" here?
These are serious questions... I'm interested in this groups history and why things are the way they are.
There may also be other new members here that would benefit from this info.
My history...
I come from a VTX riding group (Calvtxriders) that had no BOD and no rules. The only purpose was to meet other VTXers, plan rides and get-togethers and have fun! "Fast, Fun and Friendly" was the moto. That group is like a big, disfunctional family. There were (and are) disagreements and bickering. If you ever want to see some drama, check out the "Learning Channel" forum over there (similar to your "General Discussions" forum here). BigLarry is the board admin and tries to keeps the peace, God bless him. No BOD to discuss this or that. Just Larry and the members. Larry calls it a "self cleaning" forum... if someone starts some crap, the members weed them out. As disfunctional as the Cali board can be, it's the best group of misfits I've ever been associated with! We planned rides, partied our asses off and HAD FUN! PERIOD. I met more friends in the three years I rode with them then I've met in my entire life! It always amazed me how we fought on the board, but as soon as WE RODE TOGETHER all was right with the world. It was soooo important to RIDE TOGETHER and until you did... you were no body.
I didn't say all this to give the impression that the Calvtxers do it better... just different.
My intent was to offer a contrasting view. That's all. Take it or leave it.
I only hope I'm able to meet more VTXers here and continue my fondest past time activity... RIDING THE VTX!
I'm interested to learn why things are the way they are here and try my best to "fit in".
Maybe it would be best to get the 'inside scoop" at a M/G. What ya say ya'll come on over to Bikini's in San Marcos this Sunday at 2pm and "enlighten" me. :stickpoke: ;) ;) ;)

Just meant to inject a little humor, Trent. A lot of folks have weighed in, and more feelings have been hurt on this one than probably was needed. Sorry to rub you the wrong way, (or any kind of way, actually...)
You would have seen me if you would have showed up for the Hallettsville ride I led, like you said you were going to. No worries. And if I wasn't going to Canada, and the Spring Thing had not been postponed, I would have showed up tomorrow. Not overnight, because I'm a Taco that doesn't camp, but it would have been nice to see you all, and for more than the 15 minutes I hung around for last year.
Now, more cowbell!

Hey guys I can't fix alot of anything on the board. But like most of us we have a few questions and would like to be asked before anything major( or Major to us) Is changed. Thats not a lot to ask. Now When some people have to throw out little I got you marks like this "No different than me paying out of my pocket to keep this site running."
We, I have answer to that. I can host it. Or About 10 of my friends have servers at home that can do it too.
Now I am no longer up set about spring thing. Whats done is done. Now Brock as a President being Moderator, site admin. is unherd of on any of the other forms i have been apart of. Now i am not the only one who feels this way, There is a lot more who do. I am not going to call anyone out. Just think about how this is being run BOD. We all know that not one person should be able to hold all of these titles. Now Brock I can fix how much you PAY to keep this site running as well as get more Moderators. Maybe all this is slowing you down thats why you can't every come to a cen-tex meet and greet.
Well just in case you band me for my out burst.
Xriders i love this board, I enjoy the hell out of all most all of you, I just can't Stand look at me stabs towards the group.
I am sure that the Members would be willing to pay for the cost of the boad to if it was run the way we wanted ;)
The Tri-City is coming up on April 11th (Easter Weekend); why wait till August.
Find it, set it & lets do it. :bikerider: :c :cool2: :flag:
