Title: Boozefighter on a Triumph?
Post by: tejasx on May 04, 2009, 11:32:13 AM
I was running some errands around Grapevine Saturday and saw a Boozefighter with his colors on, riding a Triumph.  I thought they only allowed "American" motorcyles in their group.  At least that is what I was told by a former friend who sold his Wing, bought a Harley and joined them.

Never heard of a Boozefighter? Is that some slang for a 1% who doesn't normally fight until the booze gives him the courage to?

It's a national club with local chapters.  As far as I know, I don't think they are 1%'s.  The meaning behind Boozefighters, is that they fight to get all the booze they can.

Actually the 1% term came from the Hollister riot, an event in which the Boozefighters are always named as causing the most trouble.  So one would assume that they are 1%er's...

they have a small group of 1%'s but the majority of them are average guys

you would be correct in that they are not suppossed to ride anything but american made while in colors. they can own other bikes and ride them, but not in colors. I know a few of them.....

He was alone, so maybe he was just fudging their system.  I had that one friend that sold his Wing, bought a Harley and joined them.  He invited me to their clubhouse, but told me I had to park my Honda in the back away from their bikes and I could ride with them, but I had to ride in a seperate group trailing them, In a less than PC way, I told him no thanks.  A few of us were at Twin Peaks in Bedford a while back and a few of the BF's came over, they seemed to be pretty decent guys, had a nice chat with them.

WE'll mine and Big Oz's daughter dated a boozefighter for sometime and we were asked many times to come and ride with them but we declined because we were told that because we didnt ride a Harley or an American made bike we would have to ride at the back. And was also told that if he rode with us on what we called our rides, he would have to be the lead bike. I'm so happy that relationship is now over.

:agree: Who needs a relationship like that, as far as american made bike, we have more stuff made in the U.S. than Harley does. Not sure if that is true I just like saying it. :t

Park around back, I got to lead, or I can't go. I only ride the correct bike, all others to the back of the pack. Ya prove your self, and get the right bike, and we will think about letting you join.
Sounds like that bible, thumping bunch of  local Wing riders.
I just could not measure up.
Boozefighters is a old club, but its all just a bunch of silly B.S.

Advice:  It's not cool to make a general assumption about everyone that posts in a thread, especially when that general assumption is a negative one.  Yes, yes, I know you are a member of the Blacksheep MC, and you must have a wealth of knowledge, much greater than any of ours, of MC's, their history, etc...  But it would be a lot cooler to just contribute something meaningful to the thread rather than talk AppleSauce & try to  :pot:

For starters I AM NOT A MEMBER OF THE BLACKSHEEP.  Second yes the Boozefighters are supposed to ride American when they have their colors on.  3rd the term 1% was derived after the AMA said that 99% of motorcycle riders were law abiding citizens who just enjoyed riding and that is was only 1% that was hell raisers/ outlaws/ troublemakers.  The term 1% has become an overused term for most clubs when in reality it is only select clubs that wear the diamond.

But wouldn't you agree that many of the OMG's that sport the diamond (1%) & MC, give other MC's that do not have the diamond a bad rap by MC association.

I am 48 & hope that I never grow-up.  I enjoy that small part of my immaturity that I think everyone has when riding (even though most won't admit it).

I agree and most people who don't know anything about bikes or MC just see a patch and lumps all patches together.  Many don't realize that their are family clubs where the women wear patches also their are clubs that allow any make of bike and there are MC's which only allow Harleys.  I have been a part of both sides of that coin and know that MC's are all different and many of them don't get along but not all MC's are like that.

FOR STARTERS, here is one of your previous posts in which you stated that you were a Blacksheep.  Maybe you meant you were a "black sheep" but you stated "Blacksheep", that led me to the conclusion that you were a member of the Blacksheep MC.
Let's see sponsored by Blacksheep MC and I am a Blacksheep guess that means I will be there 8)

And yes the 1% term came from the AMA, but what do you think they were responding to?  Do you think they just decided one insignificant day  to announce that 99% of their members were law abiding citizens and that 1% were outlaws?  Do some research and figure out why they said that, and to what they were responding.  I'll give you a little hint, look at my first post in this thread.

Again, don't make general assumptions about people not knowing what they are talking about.  I obviously did know what I was talking about.

Lived in Hollister, so that makes me a bonafide expert, right?

The AMA was responding to the incident in Hollister in 1947.  It's well documented.

Of course what 1% means to different people will vary.

I think the whole hubbub about patches, C of C , one percenters is just stupid. I get it that some people want to wear certain patches for fun to announce where their from or what kind of bike they ride but these thugs dictating who can wear what is rediculous. I know a rider that got jacked up at a bar by some of these creeps because he was wearing a "Sons of ANARCHY"  Tee Shirt. And he had just ridden in a benefit ride for one of their members! That's why I don't wear that type of gear, don't want anyone to think that I'm a so called biker.

I'm just an old guy who enjoys riding (NOT A BIKER) and will wear what ever I want when I want, not that I have a bunch of patches, only a couple of buttons. I'm not saying I can't be jacked, but I can say it will only happen once and who ever did the jacking will never jack again. OLD guys don't just talk about it :ohwow: I am a fun loving, peaceful guy and get along with everybody, but I can't tolerate stupid behavior.  :cuss:

No matter what anyone says...We are all "Bikers!" by public perception.  The difference is that we choose not to live the perceived biker lifestyle.

And I agree with Noob & Gumbo...

When all else fails, and you're unsure if your knowledge is correct...  Use Wikipedia!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boozefighters

They are the oldest biker club in America, still in existence.
They are not 1%-ers.

Their club website --  http://www.bfmcnatl.com/

I know this is an old post but maybe those who commented on here will be able to see this still.

Ok I'm here to clear up y'all's misconceptions about the Boozefighters and other MCs. First to answer the question on which this thread was started. The Boozefighters are not bound to just American made bikes. They are allowed to ride any american made bike or any bike made by an allied nation at the time of WWII. Therefore a Triumph is a qualifying bike. In fact some of the Original founding members rode them. If you really want to know the true story and the history of the Boozefighters and the Outlaw Biker definition and how it came about and the story behind Hollister in 1947 there is a great book called "The Original Wild Ones". The Boozefighters were started in California in 1946 by Willie Forkner. They were a bunch of young guys back from the war that bought surplus motorcycles because thats all they could afford because they were cheap. just a bunch of guys trying to have fun and live their youth that was lost by joining the war at a very young age. they did a lot of racing on the AMA circuit and drinking to help cope with the trauma of the war. The term Outlaw MC came from the AMA and was applied to groups that failed to adhere to the strict rules and guidelines at their sanctioned racing events. The Boozefighters were labeled this by the AMA. The term 1% is defined as the group of 1% of motorcycle riders that live above the law. The Boozefighters are NOT a 1% club. In fact there are some law enforcement that are members of the club. The Boozefighters are a history club and claim no territory and have chapters all over the world. They are just a bunch of guys who love riding bikes and the companionship of the brotherhood. They are a benefit to the community where their local chapters reside by doing benefits for disabled vets, families that have fallen on hard times, and donate to local charities and needy families. And for the guy that was asked to ride at the back of the pack; if you've ever ridden with any club, (power club or not) you will know that their is a hierarchy to any club; especially one structured around military ranking; as which most MCs are. Officers at front, patch holders next, Prospects and hangarounds after that, then the guests of those to the back. It was not meant to offend or disrespect you. it is just the way it has always been and always will be. but it is also for safety reasons. please think about it for a moment. these guys that are in these clubs are used to riding in a pack or Formation as its called. A guest or new person to the group is likely unknown to the individuals of the group or club and more than likely not used to riding in formation. And if that person is allowed to ride in the middle or front of the formation and that person goes down due to inexperience think of all the other people he may bring down behind him. So to minimize this they are asked to ride at the back of the formation. It was mainly for everyones safety. Y'all asked for enlightenment so i hope this enlightens you. But please read the book for the true story and history, besides there are some great stories from the guys that started the traditions of what we all love doing that is riding motorcycles.

I like our group its not a club and it has no rules. I hate riding in packs and even with others. I ride alone, but the X Riders are fun to build the fire and chug a cold one with.
