DFW Tire Shop
« on: February 19, 2009, 12:51:45 PM »

The POS stock Dunlop's are pretty much history on my VTX.  Of course purchasing a new set of tires from the Dealers is just incredibly high (over $500) so doing mail order appears to be a less expensive alternative.  My question for you motorcycle experts extraordinaire:  Is there a shop preferably in the north Dallas, Plano, Allen, McKinney area that will mount mail order tires?  And second question is will that shop remove the wheels from the bike or will they only mount tires on wheels that you deliver.  Cycle gear for example will not remove wheels from a bike - you must deliver the wheels for tire mounting.  I don't have a jack or stand at the moment and would prefer a shop that will take the whole bike.

Thanks in advance guys...    :thumbup:

Honda dealer Maxim in Allen can do it. I changed my tires last year there. Just bring your bike and tires, they will change tires out for you.

Interesting.  I know Maxim well however I made the assumption they would not install tires they didn't sell.  I also lifted this from the darkside forum but I have not verified it:

Cycle Concepts is a sole proprietership in Frisco. They install MC tires. Here is an excerpt from an email reply I received from them:
====================
yes, i do install motorcycle tires
$25 if you carry in the wheel, also is it spokes ($10 more) or mag
$45 if you bring the bike, ($10 more for spokes)
and you can call me and set up an appointment, i need to know what kind of bike this is.

I know you were looking for a place close to you BUT
if you go to Bikers Bay in Bedford - let them know that you are a member of the SCRC - you get a 10% discount

They have done me good before.

I used family powersports in Mckinney.  They were able to get me a real good price on tires.  Cheaper then I found on the internet and then mounted them for free because I bought the tires from them.

I think McKinney power sports charged me 45.00 and that was to take the wheel off the bike and mount the tire.  I thought that was a good price.  I didn't check any prices if you carry the wheel in.

No offense to any of the previous posters.  As I was in a bit of a hurry and not able to do the work ahead of time as I would have liked I ended up using Maxim.  They charge by the hour for labor.  I was charged 1.6 hours of labor for a 50 minute job.  I'm not a happy camper but I knew they would be expensive going into the deal.  It will be the last time however as I will be prepaired for the next time.  BTW - they will work on Darkside bikes but they will not install a car tire on a bike.  They think that is an absurd idea.

Thanks again guys for all the helpful information.  It appears more than just I have benefited from the info.     :thumbup:
